Closing Jebel Ali meeting sees Al Raihe topping trainer's championship

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum's Shadwell breeding operation sponsored the final meeting of the Jebel Ali season on Friday afternoon and the sponsor's own silks were carried to victory in the concluding 1200m conditions race.

Alazeyab, trained by Champion Trainer Ali Rashid Al Raihe and ridden by Richard Hills landed the spoils and Hills said: "That is a great end to the Jebel Ali season and nice for the boss to have a winner. The horse deserved a win after some good efforts recently.

It was Al Raihe's 30th win of the season and took him back to the top of the trainers' championship ahead of Musabah Al Muhairi courtesy of having trained more seconds with Al Muhairi also on 30.

The afternoon's official feature was a 1950m handicap and Mulaqat, trained on the course by Dhruba Selvaratnam, opened his dirt account under William Buick who promptly doubled up on Selvaratnam's Otaared in the 1400m handicap.

Both are owned by course owner His Highnes Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Buick said: "It is nice to get a couple on the board for Dhruba and Sheikh Ahmed at the last meeting. Dhruba places his horses well and both these have loads of ability but are not the easiest."

Also in double form was trainer Satish Seemar who won a second 1950m handicap with Kala Kanta under apprentice Harry Bentley, before stable jockey Richard Mullen partnered Kaiss to win a second 1400m handicap.

Seemar said: "We are finishing the season in the kind of form we began and hopefully our World Cup night runners can go well next Saturday."

The opening 1600m handicap was won by the Mubarak bin Shafya-trained Graymalkin who kept Champion Jockey Tadhg O'Shea's hopes of retaining his title alive.

He said: "It was a nice spare ride and a good start to the afternoon. Hopefully I have a few more nice chances on Sunday and maybe even next Saturday."
