ERA Media Release - Mr Nacer Samiri

ERA Stewards held an inquiry after being notified that BRRAQ (FR), trained by Mr. Nacer Samiri, had been treated with Stanozolol, an anabolic steroid prohibited under ERA Rule 95B 2.

Trainer Mr. Samiri pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of ERA Rule 95C(i), in that on the 28th November 2016, at his registered training location, Al Wathba Stables, he had in his possession Stanozolol, which if administered to a horse at any time could give rise to an offence under ERA Rule 95B.

In considering penalty the Stewards took into account:
• Mr. Samiri’s guilty plea,
• His forthright evidence,
• That his stable cooperated with the ERA during the investigation process and had even documented the use of Stanozolol in their medication log, as required under the rules,
• That the Stanozolol was an unsolicited sample delivered to the stable and he was unaware that it was a breach of the rules to both be in possession of the drug and administer it to a racehorse, and
• That BRRAQ (FR) did not race after it had been treated.

Mr. Samiri was fined the sum of AED 20,000.

Veterinarian Dr. Gabriel Wolcan pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of ERA Rule 11(i), in that his negligence in treating BRRAQ (FR), with Stanozolol on the 27th November 2016, could have led to a breach of ERA Rule 95B 1.

In considering penalty the Stewards took into account:
• Dr. Wolcan’s guilty plea,
• That he injected BRRAQ (FR) with Stanozolol,
• The nature of the substance; that being a drug that is prohibited for use in racehorses,
• His forthright evidence and contrition regarding the matter.

Dr. Wolcan was fined the sum of AED 20,000.

Further, under the provisions of ERA Rule 87(iv), Stewards disqualified BRRAQ (FR) from entering to race for a period of 6 months, commencing on the 27th November 2016.
