Home team eyes Jebel Ali feature

Shadwell, one of the world's leading breeding operations, has again lent it's weight to Jebel Ali Racecourse as lead sponsor for a six race card at the popular venue on Friday afternoon. The two most valuable races on the programme carry the Shadwell name.

The locally trained Meeris heads the weights for the headline event a AED110,000 1950 metres handicap with the Dhruba Selveratnam trainee having to give away a minimum kilo and a half to his 12 opponents.

The Abdulla Bin Huzaim-prepared Submariner was an excellent third in the Jebel Ali Stakes over this trip on his local debut and proved that no fluke when winning last week over 1800m. He will again be ridden by Carlos Sandoval and could be the one to beat.

Tony Manuel trains Noisy Silence, third in the 2010 Jebel Ali Stakes but only seen three times since. He will be ridden by Pat Dobbs and Manuel said: "The horse has had a few problems but hopefully is coming back to his best. We would like to think he has a decent chance."

UK raider Major Victory supplies international competition, while Palm Court represents the Ali Rashid Al Raihe/Royston Ffrench combination which can never be ignored at Jebel Ali.

Musabah Al Muhairi has his team in great form and will be represented by Pearly King to be ridden by Wayne Smith currently leading the UAE jockey's Championship.

Smith will be hoping to increase his lead on the win's table with Das El Samer in the opener, a 1600m conditions race for Purebred Arabian contest.

Shadwell also sponsor the concluding 1200m handicap in which Seachantach and Green Beret clash again having finished second and third respectively in a similar race last week.

There should be little between them again with Musaafer and Emper Holly others to consider in an open contest.

A full-field 16 runner handicap over 1600 metres, a 1950 metres maiden race and an 11 runner 1400 metres handicap fill out the programme with the first race race set down for a 2.20pm start.
