Born on March 15, 1969, Yutake Take is a legend in Japanese racing. He made his debut as a jockey on March 1 1987 and since then he has broken numerous records and until early February had won 1,869 races from just 9,521 rides. In 2000 he decided to try his luck in America and while he is now based there he returns to Japan frequently and during these return trips he managed to snare nine Group Is for the season. His riding career is filled with records, he has won the Japanese Jockey's Championship on 11 occasions, nine of those in succession, while he created a new Japan Racing Association Record winning four consecutive Grand Prize Jockey Awards, an award given to jockeys who dominate the three major categories. During the 2000 season he also travelled to Europe and this trip was notable for the success of the champion sprinter Agnes World in the Group I July Cup at Newmarket. This was his fourth win at Group I level outside of Japan and he is the only Japanese jockey to ride a Group I winner in England. His Group I wins in Japan include the Japan Cup, Japanese 2000 Guineas, Derby and St Leger.
