BARAKAT (AE) reared as the gates opened causing jockey S Al Reffai to lose his right iron which he managed to regain shortly after. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, BARAKAT (AE) shifted out slightly crowding BAHRA (FR) (D Badel) onto RAZIN (FR) (T O’Shea). Approaching the 800m, when commencing to give ground, CS CHARMA (GB) (R Ffrench) had to be checked when tightened for room to the inside of ADEEM (AE) (S Al Taleei) and AF AMER TAHADDI (AE) (R Thomas). At the same time, SHOOF ELAJAB (FR) (D O’Donohoe) which was racing to the outside and in advance of AF AMER TAHADDI (AE) had also commenced to give ground. On enquiry, it was established that at the time that ADEEM (AE) and AF AMER TAHADDI (AE) had moved around the tiring CS CHARMA (GB), SHOOF ELAJAB (FR) had shifted in slightly when also commencing to tire and had contributed to AF AMER TAHADDI (AE) and ADEEM (AE) shifting in onto CS CHARMA (GB). As such, the Stewards were satisfied that no one rider could be blamed for this incident and no further action was taken.

CLASP (GB) (W Smith) was momentarily eased shortly after the start when KALAHARI GOLD (IRE) (T O’Shea) shifted out slightly. Also shortly after the start, MONTE ALTO (IRE) (M Henry) raced in restricted room between FATHAYER (USA) (R Ffrench) and EDDIE JOCK (IRE) (R Mullen). Approaching the 200m, KALAHARI GOLD (IRE) had to be checked when racing to the inside of JAASOOS (IRE) (W Buick). On enquiry, it was established that when racing tight, KALAHARI GOLD (IRE) and JAASOOS (IRE) were both endeavouring to get the same run and when the two horses bumped slightly, JAASOOS (IRE) became unbalanced and momentarily shifted in onto KALAHARI GOLD (IRE) causing it to be checked. The Stewards could apportion no blame to the riders in this incident and as such no further action was taken. Leaving the 150m, JAASOOS (IRE) shifted out taking EMIRATES GOLD (IRE) (D Badel) out on to FATHAYER (USA) which had to be restrained and in doing so bumped with EDDIE JOCK (IRE) which caused that gelding to be eased. On enquiry, Jockey W Buick (JAASOOS [IRE]) was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was subsequently suspended for riding in races for 2 days (Jebel Ali 18th December, 2009 and Abu Dhabi 20th December 2009).

ORDOKI (FR) (J Rosales) was slow into stride. REMARKABLE MAN (US) (P Smullen) jumped inwards at the start crowding AIKIDO VEGE (FR) (M Henry) for room with that horse making contact with MIZZNA (FR) (G Avranche). Shortly after this, as the field linked up with the course proper, REMARKABLE MAN (US) shifted inwards. At the same time, RABAH DE CARRERE (FR) (W Buick) and SHADIYDA (FR) (T Durcan) rolled outwards resulting in AIKIDO VEGE (FR) and MIZZNA (FR) having to be steadied. PALAPAL (GB) (R Ffrench) raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of QUAOLINA (FR), Jockey T O’Shea stated that the horse had felt well within itself and he could offer no excuses for the horse’s poor performance.
