ACROSS THE RHINE (USA) (P Smullen) was hard to load. Trainer Mr A Manuel was advised that ACROSS THE RHINE (USA) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. LOVELACE (GB) (K Fallon), GALLAGHER (GB) (J Spencer), AL KHALEEJ (IRE) (T Durcan) and ACROSS THE RHINE (USA) were slow into stride. STOIC (IRE) (R Moore) bumped between SKYWARDS (GB) (D Badel) and KHOR DUBAI (IRE) (C Sanchez) on jumping. MUTHEEB (USA) (R Hills) raced keenly in the early stages. When endeavouring to obtain clear running rounding the home bend, MUTHEEB (USA) bumped with AAMAAQ (GB) (T O’Shea). In the early parts of the straight, STOIC (IRE) (R Moore) was impeded for clear running behind LOVELACE (GB) (K Fallon). Apprentice A Ajtebi (PROCLAIM [GB]) was reprimanded for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(vii) for hitting his horse with the whip without giving it time to respond. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on STOIC (IRE), Jockey R Moore stated that given the wide barrier draw for the gelding in today’s event, his instructions were to settle the horse in the second half of the field, rather than to push forward and be caught wide. Accordingly, after being bumped and crowded for room between runners out of the gates, he elected to allow STOIC (IRE) to find his feet and take up a rearward position. Jockey R Moore further stated that after rounding the home bend, STOIC (IRE) had a tendency to lay in after initially being held up for clear running. Whilst the Stewards accepted Jockey R Moore’s explanation, he was reminded of his obligations to show sufficient vigor to ensure he obtains the best possible finishing position.

MR BROCK (SAF) (K Shea) and ASPECTUS (IRE) (K Fallon) were slow into stride. WAR MONGER (USA) (R Hills) and LUCKY RAY (ARG) (P Dobbs) bumped on jumping. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, LUCKY RAY (ARG) (P Dobbs) shifted inwards, taking BOOK OF MUSIC (IRE) (R Mullen) in onto BERMUDA RYE (IRE) (R Ffrench), which was restrained and lost its position. ASPECTUS (IRE), which was racing to the inside of BERMUDA RYE (IRE), was hampered. On enquiry, Jockey P Dobbs (LUCKY RAY [ARG]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 2 days (Abu Dhabi 14th February and Meydan 18th February, 2010). Leaving the 1600m, BERMUDA RYE (IRE), which had then commenced to race keenly, had to be restrained off the heels of BOOK OF MUSIC (IRE). In the straight, ROYAL PRINCE (GB) (D O’Donohoe) was held up for clear running until the final 50m of the race.
