LIGHTFOOT (GB) (A Nicholls) was slow to begin. AMAAL (USA) (JP van der Merwe) began awkwardly. Leaving the 500m, JARIDH (USA) (T Durcan) was restrained from its position between RACE TO DUBAI (USA) (R Ffrench) to its outside, and PERIPHERY (USA) (A Ajtebi) to its inside. On enquiry, based on the evidence available to them, the Stewards were of the opinion that at this stage of the race, after establishing a run to the outside of the heels of the tiring ISOMETRIC (USA) (J Rosales), Jockey A Ajtebi (PERIPHERY [USA]) had shifted outwards further causing JARIDH (USA) to be restrained from its racing position by Jockey T Durcan. Jockey A Ajtebi (PERIPHERY [USA]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was suspended from riding in races for 2 days (31 January 2013 at Meydan and 2 February 2013 at Meydan). Jockey JP van der Merwe (AMAAL [USA]) was reprimanded for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(i) in that he used his whip in the forehand position forward of the saddle. ISOMETRIC (USA) returned having lost its left fore shoe in running. A post-race veterinary examination of QUEEN OF ALBA (IRE) revealed the filly to have blood in its mouth due to an oral injury.

MARK TO MARKET (IRE) (P Dobbs) and CRACKDOWN (IRE) (G Avranche) bumped on jumping. ENERGIA EL GIGANTE (BRZ) (G Carroll) was impeded behind PRINCE SHAUN (IRE) (W Smith) for a short distance prior to making the home bend. MUTUAL FORCE (USA) (S Al Mazrooei) was held up for clear running behind DEVDAS (IRE) (JP van der Merwe) making the home bend. Shortly after making the home bend, REBEL SONG (IRE) (P Cosgrave), which was commencing to tire, drifted inwards causing ENERGIA EL GIGANTE (BRZ) to drift inwards onto the tiring PRINCE SHAUN (IRE) (W Smith), which was restrained. In doing so, PRINCE SHAUN (IRE) bumped COUNT PARIS (USA) (D O’Donohoe). On enquiry, Jockey P Cosgrave (REBEL SONG [IRE]) was advised that, notwithstanding that both his mount and the mount of Jockey W Smith (PRINCE SHAUN [IRE]) were tiring at this stage, he must ensure that he makes every endeavour to keep his mounts straight. COUNT PARIS (USA) was unable to obtain clear running in the home straight.

HAZAZ (IRE) (S Al Mazrooei), MON CADEAUX (GB) (D O’Donohoe) and LEAGUE CHAMPION (USA) (A Ajtebi) began awkwardly. ROYAL RIDGE (SAF) (P Hanagan) jumped inwards at the start and crowded FIRESTREAK (GB) (W Smith). The Stewards spoke to Apprentice A Al Subosi (GOLDEN SHAHEEN [IRE]) regarding the use of his whip in this race, as per the conditions of his Apprentice Licence. In noting that Apprentice A Al Subosi is not yet permitted to use the whip, the Stewards also were of the opinion that his use of the whip in this race had been in breach of ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(vi) in that he had used it with excessive frequency. The Stewards will be addressing this matter further with both Apprentice A Al Subosi, Mr Y Mabrouk (ERA Master of Apprentices), and the Apprentice’s host Trainer.

FINEST RESERVE (IRE) (D O’Donohoe) refused to leave the starting gates and took no part in the race. Trainer Mr F Nass was advised that FINEST RESERVE (IRE) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being permitted to be entered to race again. FUNON (IRE) (P Hanagan) was slow to begin and was then crowded shortly after the start between INTHAR (USA) (S de Sousa) and ZAEEM (GB) (A Ajtebi). UKRAINIAN (IRE) (R Ffrench) and MASTER DANIEL (USA) (S Hitchcott) bumped on jumping. GOLD RALLY (USA) (A Murgia) was slow to begin. Approaching the 1700m, MUSAAFER (IRE) (G Avranche), which had commenced to over-race, improved to the inside of ZAEEM (GB) and had to be restrained when ZAEEM (GB) drifted inwards slightly. A short distance later, after SHABORA (IRE) (K Fallon) had crossed ZAEEM (GB), ZAEEM (GB) then drifted outwards crowding HADBA (IRE) (P Cosgrave) out on to UKRAINIAN (IRE). Making the home bend, INTHAR (USA) shifted outwards crowding PASCHENDALE (GB) (W Smith) outwards towards GOLD RALLY (USA), resulting in PASCHENDALE (GB) having to be eased. On enquiry, Jockey S de Sousa (INTHAR [USA]) was reprimanded under ERA Rule 69(i) and advised that he must ensure that he is clear when shifting ground.

ALKIMOS (IRE) (K Fallon), LAYALI AL ANDALUS (GB) (R Mullen), DR FAUSTUS (IRE) (P Dobbs) and SWITZERLAND (IRE) (S Al Mazrooei) were slow to begin. Leaving the 1900m, MANTOBA (GB) (G Carroll) shifted inwards carrying BURDLAZ (IRE) (J Santiago) inwards, causing EXPENSE CLAIM (IRE) (T Durcan) to be eased and drift inwards, which caused MAALI (IRE) (H Bentley) to be momentarily restrained inwards onto LAYALI AL ANDALUS (GB), which was restrained. On enquiry, Jockey G Carroll (MANTOBA [GB]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was suspended from riding in races for 2 days (31 January 2013 at Meydan and 2 February 2013 at Meydan). As MANTOBA (GB) continued to shift inwards, FLAG OFFICER (GB) (S de Sousa) was carried inwards and then commenced to race keenly through the early stages of the race. Making the home bend, LAYALI AL ANDALUS (GB) was impeded behind the tiring BURDLAZ (IRE), and then a short distance later, LAYALI AL ANDALUS (GB) improved around BURDLAZ (IRE) and bumped with DR FAUSTUS (IRE). Approaching the 300m, NASEEM ALYASMEEN (IRE) (R Ffrench) was restrained when racing between TESSLAM (GB) (S James) to its outside, and ALKIMOS (IRE) (K Fallon), which was improving to its inside. On enquiry, based on the evidence before them, the Stewards established that at this stage of the race, as NASEEM ALYASMEEN (IRE) was tiring, TESSLAM (GB) drifted inwards slightly, and at the same time ALKIMOS (IRE) shifted outwards. Notwithstanding that NASEEM ALYASMEEN (IRE) was tiring and there was some movement from TESSLAM (GB), NASEEM ALYASMEEN (IRE) was entitled to hold its position. Accordingly, Jockey K Fallon (ALKIMOS [IRE]) was reprimanded under ERA Rule 69(i) and advised that he must ensure he is clear when shifting ground. Leaving the 300m, when EXPENSE CLAIM (IRE) attempted to obtain a run to the inside of MANTOBA (GB), MANTOBA(GB) drifted inwards, obliging EXPENSE CLAIM (IRE) to alter course to the outside of MANTOBA (GB). Approaching the 100m, EXPENSE CLAIM (IRE) and DR FAUSTUS (IRE) bumped and raced tight for short distance. A post-race veterinary examination of MANTOBA (GB) revealed the horse to have blood in its mouth due to an oral injury. ALKIMOS (IRE) returned with lacerations to its left hind leg.
