On arriving at the barrier the saddle of RABBAH DE CARRERE (FR) had to be adjusted. RABBAH DE CARRERE (FR) was slow to begin. SHAYEL ALDHABI (AE) was held up approaching the turn into the straight and on straightening. T M SUPER BIRD (US) race keenly in the early and middle stages.When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on AREEM (FR), Jockey A Ajtebi explained that the horse must lead in races to perform at its best. He further added as he could not attain the lead, AREEM (FR) had hung out throughout.

SEACHANTACH (USA) commenced awkwardly and then bumped with ROICEAD (USA). On jumping FITYAAN (GB) shifted in making contact with NERO EMPEROR (IRE). TAKE TEN (GB) was slow to stride. Passing the 500 metres MONSIEUR JOE (IRE) layed out brushing with NERO EMPEROR (IRE) which became unbalanced. Racing onto the course proper, HOTOTO (GB) shifted ground outwards quickly. Approaching the winning post AHTOUG (GB) and HOTOTO (GB) bumped. Approaching the 200 metres NERO EMPEROR (IRE) was eased out of the race. A veterinary examination of NERO EMPEROR (IRE) revealed the gelding to have a possible pelvic fracture. NERO EMPEROR (IRE) was transported to Dubai Equine Hospital were this diagnosis was confirmed and the gelding was subsequently euthanized.

BUSKER (USA) was slow to begin. SPECIFIC GRAVITY (FR) commenced awkwardly. TRANSPARENT (USA) over-raced in the middle stages. CLON BRULEE (IRE) raced wide without cover throughout. EL ESTRUENDOSO (ARG) raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Passing the winning post the first time SWEET LIGHTENING (GB) shifted in, causing EL ESTRUENDOSO (ARG) to restrain and shift inwards buffeting with TRANSPARENT (USA), which checked. SPECIFIC GRAVITY (FR) was also inconvenienced in this incident. W Buick, the jockey of SWEET LIGHTENING (GB), pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of ERA Rule 69(i), the careless riding being that passing the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of EL ESTRUENDOSO (ARG). Jockey W Buick had his license to ride in races suspended for 2 race-meetings (MEYDAN 18th January 2014 and ABU DHABI 19th January 2014). In assessing penalty, Stewards took into account W Buicks guilty plea and good riding record.

Mr R Boursely, the trainer of ROCHDALE (GB), was fined AED 500 under the provisions of ERA Rule 51(vi) for failing to declare that the gelding was going to wear a shadow roll as its official gear by the prescribed time. After being placed in its barrier, MARAHEB (GB) became extremely fractious dislodging its rider, MARAHEB (GB) was removed from its barrier and underwent a veterinary examination and subsequently passed to take its place in the field. Mr A Al Raihe, the trainer of MARAHEB (GB), was notified that prior to the horse being entered to race again it must complete one satisfactory stalls test. MARAHEB (GB) commenced awkwardly. PROUD POSSIBILITY (USA) reared on jumping. LUI REY (ITY) was slow to begin. Approaching the 800 metres MURAWEG (IRE) restrained when close to the heels of OCEAN TEMPEST (GB). Passing the 600 metres MY FREEDOM (IRE) restrained and lost ground. On inquiry it was established that LUI REI (ITY) which was racing on the inside MY FREEDOM (IRE) steadied away from the heels PROUD POSSIBILITY (USA) which was just maintaining its position, and shifted outwards. MY FREEDOM (IRE) which was racing tight to the inside of ROCHDALE (GB) restrained and lost ground.

At the barrier stalls the saddle of TALES OF GRIMM (USA) had to be adjusted. ARTIGIANO (USA) was unsettled in the barrier prior to a start. TALES OF GRIMM (USA) was slow into stride. DERBAAS (USA) raced wide without cover throughout. TALES OF GRIMM (USA) was held up for clear running from the 400 metres until approaching the 100 metres. Passing the 200 metres DO IT ALL (USA) was inconvenienced when MUSHREQ (AUS) lay inwards. P Hanagan, the rider of MUSHREQ (AUS), was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground. C Soumillon, rider of DAVID LIVINGSTON (IRE) which performed poorly, explained that the horse did not stretch out and felt lame in front. A post-race veterinary examination of DAVID LIVINGSTON (IRE) revealed the horse to be lame in the right-foreleg. Mr M de Kock, the trainer of DAVID LIVINGSTON (IRE), was notified that prior to the horse being entered to race again he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for DAVID LIVINGSTON (IRE).
