Notable 1-2 for Al Alawi in Sunday’s Meydan feature

Racing at Meydan on Sunday was officially highlighted by a 2410m turf handicap, dominated by Helal Al Alawi who saddled both the first two home, Autumn Pride and Bernardo Pinheiro taking the main prize for the National Stables.

Richard Mullen was aboard runner-up Mystery Land, half a length separating the stablemates at the line but never able to land a serious blow with Pinheiro’s mount probably never headed.

Sporting the silks of Abdulmagid Ekout, Antonio Fresu always looked confident aboard Dahawi in a 1000m turf handicap, the pair running out a fairly comfortable winner for Musabbeh Al Mheiri.

The concluding 1600m dirt handicap went to Scabbard, never far off the pace under Sam Hitchcott for Doug Watson and David A Bernsen LLC.

There was just one Purebred Arabian race on the card, the meeting kicking off with a 1600m conditions contest which was turned into a procession by local and dirt debutant Namrood who was soon in front under Antonio Fresu, in the colours of Ahmad Bintooq Al Marri for Musabbeh Al Mheiri and, once sent clear on the home turn was never going to be caught.

The following 1400m dirt maiden for 3yo fillies proved a very similar affair with Shadzad sent straight to the lead by Tadhg O’Shea and never looking in any danger for Bhupat Seemar and Naser Askar.

Nicholas Bachalard then saddled first and third for Sheikh Ahmed in a 1600m turf maiden, Fernando Jara landing the spoils on Tahdeed, two places and about a length ahead of stablemate Alhzeem who made a very promising debut under Richard Mullen.

Then Rashed Bouresly and the Bouresly Racing Syndicate supplied the 1-2 in a 1400m dirt handicap, the prize going to Mullen on Shanty Star, chased home by Jara aboard Tabarak.
