Emirates to Launch New Meydan Racing Season

Dubai World Cup Sponsor Makes First Visit of Season to Meydan on Thursday.

The Meydan Racecourse 2015-16 season gets underway on Thursday with the traditional Emirates-sponsored opening meeting.

Meydan Pillar Partner, Emirates, the sponsor of the Dubai World Cup race and the high-class Super Saturday meeting, supports an all-Thoroughbred card worth AED855,000.

All six of Thursday’s races will take place on the dirt track with a featured 2,000m handicap, a contest that covers the same course and distance as the Dubai World Cup, taking pride of place.

Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, Centre said: “With the start of a new season at Meydan Racecourse, the events that culminate with the Dubai World Cup have been firmly established as some of the top racing challenges in the world and Emirates is proud to have been a part of it from the beginning. We are committed to supporting the development of Dubai and events such as this promote the city as a premier sporting, business and tourist destination.”

Chairman of the Meydan Racing Committee, Malih Al Basti said: “The start of the new racing season is always an exciting time for us and we look forward to giving Emirates a warm welcome at Meydan on Thursday. At Meydan Group we value the relationships we have built over the years with our esteemed partners and Emirates has been a key supporter of racing in Dubai since the start.”
