Herholdt celebrates Sunday Meydan double
Racing at Meydan on Sunday, seven non-carnival contests, had no obvious feature but did offer competitive fayre.
Four AED 95,000 handicaps shared top billing, the first, over the same 2000m on dirt as the Dubai World Cup, was won in style by Grand Dubia probably never headed under Bernardo Pinheiro, celebrating a double, for Musabbeh Al Mheiri and former Champion Trainer Ali Rashid Al Rayhi.
Equally valuable, a turf handicap over 1800m pretty much only concerned Zucchini who was probably never headed, riding for Ahmad bin Harmash and the trainer’s son, Hamdan Harmash.
Dawson said: “All credit to the horse basically; he has done this in style and in a determined manner.”
The third such race, a 1600m dirt handicap, was basically turned into a procession by Mickael Barzalona and Hyde Park who probably never saw another rival.
The finale, a 1200m handicap also worth AED 95,000, provided Mohammad Mardood his first ever winner as trainer, completing a double on the card for jockey Francois Herholdt,
A 2000m turf handicap was all about Invincibly, soon in front under South African Herholdt, enjoying his first Meydan success, for Rashed Bouresly and the Bouresly Racing Syndicate.
A 1600m turf maiden for 3yos was dominated by Fawzi Nass who not only owned and trained the winner, Legend Of Cannes and probably never headed under Gabriel Malune, riding his very first UAE winner, and chased home by stablemate Sharar.
The action kicked off with the only Purebred Arabian race on the card, a dirt conditions race over 1900m won in fine style by Rajee under Bernardo Pinheiro for Majed Al Jahoor and Yas Racing, also breeders of the 6yo entire.
