Jockey A McGlone was kicked in the paddock by MASTER OPUS (GB). After being examined by the Club's Medical Officer jockey A McGlone was passed fit to ride. This caused a delay of several minutes. THE BUILDER (SAF) (C O'Donoghue) proved difficult to load. AL MUNTASIR (AUS) (W Blandi) veered inwards at the start crowding SEVEN EMPERORS (IRE) (J Carroll) which in turn caused REDNAP (USA) (D Biggs) to lose ground. Al MUNTASIR (AUS) raced greenly passing the 500m and had to be steadied when shifting inwards at the same time as AMMUNITION (USA) (J Murtagh) drifted out. Shortly after this AL MUNTASIR (AUS) shifted out causing REDNAP (USA) (D Biggs) to momentarily ease. Jockey S O'Gorman (KHATEER (FR)) reported that the saddle slipped backwards passing the 400m and he was unable to ride the colt out. Trainer A Selvaratnam reported that AL MUNTASIR (AUS) (W Blandi) returned with an injury to the bottom lip.

ARCHIVE (USA) bolted after leaving the paddock dislodging jockey P Smith at 800m. ARCHIVE (USA) was inspected by the veterinarian and passed fit to race. Jockey P Smith was examined by the Club's Medical Officer and passed fit to ride. This caused a delay of approximately 5 minutes. RAGING CREEK (USA) (G Hind) broke through the stalls prior to the start and after being restrained took its place in the field. ARCHIVE (USA) was slow into stride. Passing the 550m RAGING CREEK (USA) shifted out causing CALLING THE SHOTS (GB) (D Biggs) to be momentarily steadied. D Mylonas was questioned regarding his riding of PACIFIC (USA). He stated that the gelding had begun only fairly and he had pushed it out with his hands in the early stages. However PACIFIC (USA) was well beaten for pace and it was only in the latter stages that it had made any ground. He advised that he was of the opinion that PACIFIC (USA) would be better suited over a middle distance.

Near the 1500m BO BID (USA) (N Cordrey) had to be restrained losing ground. Approaching the 1100m ESTEFZAZI (ARG) (W Smith) checked. It was established that, at this stage, ESTEFZAZI (ARG) was held tight by EL LAYTH (IRE) (G Hind) on its outside at the same time as MAROC (BRZ) (W Blandi) rolled out slightly with ESTEFZAZI (ARG), which was racing between those colts, having to be restrained losing considerable ground. In assessing this evidence Stewards could not attribute blame to any one rider. At approximately the 275m DREADLOCK (ARG) clipped the heels of COUNTYKAT (IRE) (D Williams) and blundered dislodging jockey C Taylor. Jockey C Taylor received an injury to his right knee and was transported to the American Hospital. On enquiry evidence was taken from jockey W Supple (SEATTLE FITZ (ARG)), jockey D Williams (COUNTYKAT (IRE)) and jockey C Taylor. Jockey D Williams pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under ERA 69 (i) for allowing COUNTYKAT (IRE) to shift in causing DREADLOCK (ARG) to strike its heels, blunder, thereby dislodging jockey C Taylor. Jockey D Williams was subsequently suspended for riding in races for 2 days (2 January at Nad Al Sheba and 3 January 2003 at Sharjah) and fined the sum of AED 1500.
