CROWN ENTERNTAINER (USA) (A McGlone) dwelt at the start losing considerable ground. The colt then trailed the field. Trainer K McLaughlin was advised that CROWN ENTERTAINER (USA) was placed on the Starter's List and must complete a stalls' test before being permitted to race. Shortly after the start BINSINA (GB) (G Hind) threw its head and raced fiercely. At the winning post SUBALTERN (USA) (W Ryan) and POLISH UNITY (USA) (W Supple) brushed. Jockey W Smith was questioned regarding his riding of CHAPLINESQUE (USA). He advised that he had been instructed to settle the gelding and to attempt to avoid the kickback. He had eased CHAPLINESQUE (USA) shortly after the start and had then taken the gelding wide, racing in that position until straightening.

Stewards enquired into the training and superintendence of CONCEAL (GB). Stewards were advised that the stable's assistant trainer had been called away due an emergency. After putting in place measures to satisfy themselves in relation to the superintendence of CONCEAL (GB) Stewards permitted the gelding to start. BOUNCING BOWDLER (GB) blundered badly at the start. Jockey M Hills explained that after this incident BOUNCING BOWDLER (GB) had appeared reluctant when racing into the kickback. A subsequent veterinary inspection of this gelding revealed nothing amiss. When questioned regarding the improved performance of DELUDE (IRE) (W Smith) trainer Mr P Brette advised that at its previous start the gelding had been unlucky throughout in a slowly run race when positioned rearwards. DELUDE (IRE) had made good ground in the straight but had been impeded at a vital stage. He advised that he was not disappointed in that performance given the circumstances.

EDDINGTON (ARG) (J Carroll) which was following was inconvenienced. SEATTLE FITZ (ARG) veered outwards at the 1450m turn causing NATIONAL EMERALD (SAF) (S Sanders) to be steadied. JAMRR (IRE) (W Smith) bounded in the air at the start. At the turn out of the straight AL ASH HAB (USA) (T Durcan) had to be steadied when crossed by ETHMAAR (USA) (R Hills). A veterinary inspection of KARRAAR (USA), which was eased down in the straight, revealed a strain to the near fore suspensory. Jockey G Hind advised that KARRAAR (USA) had faultered near the 1200m and again on straightening. Apprentice T Naughton (RAGSAT ALSHARQ (USA)) was reprimanded for using his whip with his arm extended above his shoulder. He was further advised that he must continue a programme of education with regards to the use of the whip and it was expected that his style should improve.
