Trainer Mr J Frazier was fined AED 200 under ERA 51 (vi) for failing to declare a visor on MAWWAL (FR). KATLEEN DU CAUSSE (FR) was withdrawn at 2.00pm when it was ascertained that the passport for the mare was unavailable. Passing the 200m JACKY DE CARRERE (FR) (W Smith) commenced to shift inwards and near the 150m crowded OCEANARA (GB) (S Sanders) which struck the hindquarters of MAWWAL (FR) (M Hills). Shortly after this KESBES DE CHAILLAC (FR) (R Mullen) shifted out quickly with MAWWAL (FR) steadying from its heels. On enquiry jockey W Smith was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under ERA 69 (i) for allowing his mount to shift in and initiate this incident. He was subsequently suspended from riding in races for one day (12 January 2003 at Abu Dhabi) and fined AED 1500.

Stewards' Reports for Race 6
After the last horse had been loaded in the stalls, a stalls handler exited under the front gate. Simultaneously the gates opened with the field jumping from the stalls. The Acting Starter immediately raised the red recall flag, thereby declaring a false start. However the person with the recall flag failed to respond to the acting starter's declaration of a false start and the field proceed around the course. A Steward positioned at the 800m, the Veterinary Surgeons who were travelling in a vehicle on the inside of the track and two Outriders who had ridden clockwise around the track attempted to alert the riders as to a danger on the track. As the Assistant Starter had declared a false start but the recall flag was not raised, Stewards enquired into the matter and under the provision of ERA 20 (xi) (c) declared it a void race. Due to the timeframe deemed it was deemed inappropriate to be re-run. The stalls handler was transported to Al Qasimi Hospital, Sharjah for treatment. In consultation with the Starter the Stewards believed that a mechanical failure when the electronic starting mechanism was armed had caused the stalls to prematurely open before the Assistant Starter was prepared to effect a start. General Report. This meeting was conducted without the aid of an official photofinish.
