SLIP STREAM (USA) (J Stack) was withdrawn at 8.50pm acting on veterinary advice when it was established that the horse had some filling in a foreleg. When questioned regarding this matter trainer Mr R Simpson advised that he had brought SLIP STREAM (USA) to the course with the intention of having it sighted by the Veterinary Officer as he had been treating an ailment for several days. After considering this evidence Stewards issued a reprimand to Mr Simpson for failing to have SLIP STREAM (USA) examined by a veterinarian prior to bringing the horse on course. CLOD BER JUNIOR (BRZ) (C Arnold) was slow to begin. Jockey W Smith advised that NORTHERN ROCK (JPN) had not travelled well at any stage and had been unable to quicken when asked for effort in the straight. Jockey K McEvoy reported that DANCAL (IRE) tended to hang out throughout running and was reluctant to travel and that the mare had shortened stride in the straight.

JOHARRA (USA) (J Spencer) jumped awkwardly and when struck with the whip near the 225m shifted in. When questioned jockey J Spencer advised that JOHARRA (USA) was inclined to hang outwards in its work and raced with an extended blinker and a hanging bit. He had ridden the filly in a rearward position and had endeavoured to keep it out of the kickback by travelling wide. He was of the opinion that JOHARRA (USA) had made good ground in the straight although racing somewhat erratically.
