RUSSIAN RELATION (USA) (W Cahill) and ALTON (USA) (S Castellier) were fractious in the stalls prior to the start. After being unruly in the stalls PRINCE OF AUSTRIA (USA) (D O'Donohoe) reared and then dwelt losing considerable ground. BENKRAM (GB) (K Fallon) raced fiercely in the early stages and near the 900m steadied when rolling out onto the heels of ALTON (USA). KANDAHAR (IRE) (B Doyle) and LUCKY JULES (USA) (G Birrer) raced extremely wide in the middle stages. Near the 500m PRINCE OF AUSTRIA (USA) steadied off the heels of OCEAN SONG (USA) (R Mullen) when that colt shifted inwards. When questioned regarding his riding of RUSSIAN RELATION (USA) in the straight jockey W Cahill stated that after beginning badly the gelding had been blocked in the straight and he had only ridden it hands and heels believing it was giving its best although tiring. Jockey R Mullen reported that OCEAN SONG (USA) made a gurgling sound during the race. A subsequent veterinary inspection revealed OCEAN SONG (USA) had race residual sand in its windpipe.

MESHTY (IRE) (G Hind) was slow to begin. Near the 800m the saddle on BOLD ENJOYMENT (USA) slipped backwards placing jockey C Taylor at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race. OCEAN OF STORMS (IRE) (D O'Donohoe) raced wide throughout. Stewards enquired into the running and handling of BURNT EMBER (USA) (A McGlone) in the straight. After taking evidence from jockey A McGlone and the horse's trainer Mr D Watson, jockey A McGlone was found guilty to the charge under ERA 68 (iii) for having failed to ensure that BURNT EMBER (USA) was given full opportunity to obtain the best placing in the field. Jockey A McGlone was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 3 days (23 November at Abu Dhabi, 27 November at Nad Al Sheba and 28 November at Jebel Ali). Further trainer Mr D Watson was advised that BURNT EMBER (USA) would not be permitted to race for a period of 3 weeks under ERA 1 (iv).
