BLUENASH (USA) (S O'Gorman) underwent a veterinary examination at the start and was declared fit to race. VANISHING ACT (USA) (R Mullen) jumped awkwardly and lost ground. CRAFTY TRUST (USA) (K Fallon) dipped at the start. DESERT GLOW (IRE) (D O'Donohoe) was slow to begin and raced wide throughout. When racing tightly near the 1600m LE GOUTILLON (USA) (R Moore) lost ground when crowded by NISSR AL JAZIRA (IRE) (R Burke) with jockey R Moore losing his off side stirrup iron which he regained shortly after. At the 1400m ATTLEE (USA) (T Durcan) had to be restrained to avoid the heels of INDICANT (JPN) (B Doyle) when that gelding rolled outwards. When questioned regarding his riding of DEERT GLOW (IRE) jockey D O'Donohoe advised that, after beginning poorly, the filly hung outwards considerably in the middle stages and he had attempted to straighten her by using his whip. However DESERT GLOW (IRE) had continued to lay outwards and in the straight he was unable to ride the filly out.

REZIF (GB) (W Supple) veered outwards cannoning into MR MAGISTRATE (AUS) (T Durcan) which was severely tightened when striking the hind quarters of SYLVANITE (USA) (L Bester). After going several strides MR MAGISTRATE (AUS) threw its head downwards with jockey T Durcan restraining the gelding. Jockey T Durcan explained that after receiving this tightening he feared that MR MAGISTRATE (AUS) was injured and had elected to pull it up. In this incident SYLVANITE (USA) lost ground. A subsequent veterinary inspection revealed nothing amiss. In the early stages FLOWER STATE (GB) (H Ramlugaan) raced erratically and had to be steadied. Approaching the 250m OUTPOKER (USA) (P Hanagan) crowded MR PADILLA (ARG) (B Doyle) which in turn tightened the tiring MY PLEASURE (GB) (G Hind) which lost ground when being eased from the heels of MYTHICAL JINKS (USA) (A Whelan). LUZERN (GB) (M Williamson) shifted in considerably near the 250m and crowded SYLVANITE (USA) at the 200m.
