AL REEF (FR) (M Hussey) was slow into stride. At the 450m VAN NISTELROOY (US) (T Durcan) was inclined to lay inwards and held KHOUTOUBIA (FR) (K Fallon) tight. At the same KAOLINO (FR) (P Hanagan) shifted out slightly and this caused KHOUTOUBIA (FR) to lose ground. Jockey K Fallon advised that although tightened at this stage KHOUTOUBIA (FR) was inclined to baulk and compounded the incident. Jockey G Hind reported that VELTE (US) hung outwards in running. Jockey B Doyle reported that ASHAAYA D'AROCO (FR) had an inclination to lay outward throughout.

The rider of BIG EASY (US) (HRH PH) lost a stirrup iron at the start regaining it shortly afterwards. Stewards questioned amateur rider Ms Copland regarding her riding of VIRIKIS (US) in the final stages. She stated that after travelling well she believed VIRIKIS (US) had shortened stride quickly near the 25m and she had stopped riding the horse for two strides. Further that VIRIKIS (US) had experienced soundness problems in the past and this had been foremost in her mind at this stage. Stewards noted that Ms H Copland was having only her tenth ride in a period covering four seasons and her last ride had been approximately 9 months prior. Her explanation was noted, however Ms Copland was reminded of all riders' obligations under the Rules to ride their mounts out to the finish of the race.

FATEK (IRE) was withdrawn at 6.30pm when Stewards were advised by the horse's trainer that it had swelling to the near fore leg. After considering the lateness of advice of this withdrawal trainer Mr R Simpson was fined AED 500 under ERA 60 (iii). When the start was effected MAMBRINO (USA) (C Avery) bounded in the air and then baulked refusing to take any part in the race. Trainer Mr M Al Darmaki was advised that MAMBRINO (USA) was placed on the Starter's List and must complete a Stalls' Test before being permitted to race. AVIONIC (IRE) (A Whelan) was slow to begin. TANUSIUS (GB) (G Hind) dipped on jumping and shortly after was bumped by NIGHT PREY (USA) (R Moore). AVIONIC (IRE) was reluctant to race competitively in the early stages. Jockey A Whelan advised that although urged AVIONIC (IRE) had been resentful and near the 1900m had attempted to pull up. Approaching the 400m TANUSIUS (GB) shifted in and crowded KRISKOVA (USA) (S Sanders) which in turn shifted in bumping the tiring JASMIM DA NOITE (BRZ) (M Williamson) which when being restrained bumped the hind quarters of HOBB ALWAHTAN (GB) (R Mullen). On enquiry jockey G Hind was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under ERA 69 (i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 2 days (18 January at Abu Dhabi and 22 January at Nad Al Sheba). Passing the 300m MAXIM (ARG) (M Hussey) was steadied outwards across the heels of RAGSAT ALSHARQ (USA) (K Fallon) which had rolled in slightly. RIORDAN (USA) (T Durcan) lay outwards in the straight.
