SUZUKA (USA) (B Doyle) jumped awkwardly. MAHROOS (USA) (R Hills) raced greenly throughout. SHAARD (IRE) (W Supple) raced wide in the early and middle stages. Passing the 200m TAKTEEK (GB) (P Smith) was held up and had to be steadied off the heels of IJTIHAD (GB) (A Whelan). Stewards questioned jockey D O'Donohoe regarding his riding of MR PADILLA (ARG). He advised that he had been instructed to ride the horse in a rearward position with the intention of allowing MR PADILLA (ARG) to run out the 1600m. When put under pressure in the straight the horse had responded well but he had been impeded and blocked on several occasions. He was of the opinion that had this not had occurred MR PADILLA (ARG) would have won. He further stated that he had not resorted to the whip as he had believed that MR PADILLA (ARG) was responding well to hands and heels riding. In considering this issue stewards cautioned jockey D O'Donohoe and advised him that he should show more vigour and display more purpose in his riding in future.
