FORTY HABLADOR (ARG) (F Da Silva) was tightened for room shortly after the start. Passing the 1500m COUNTRY RAMBLER (USA) (P Dobbs) commenced to race keenly and shortly afterwards was restrained off the heels of NAMORADO (BRZ) (P Smullen). Approaching the 1450m FORTY HABLADOR (ARG) was steadied off the heels of ARABIAN ANA (IRE) (G Hind) when that colt rolled inwards. KANDIDATE (GB) (M Kinane) made the turn at the 1400m awkwardly and carried JANA CEK (BRZ) (T Pereira) out on to the heels of GYPSY JOHNNY (GB) (T Durcan) with JANA CEK (BRZ) losing considerable ground. Trainer Mr M De Kock was questioned regarding the improved performance of BECRUX (ITY) (W Marwing). Mr De Kock stated he did not give any specific riding instructions to the jockey, but he believed that BECRUX (ITY) was better suited to racing in a forward position. He was also of the opinion that the addition of a tongue tie combined with natural improvement from racing had contributed to the improved performance of BECRUX (ITY).
