After being slow to begin SLEEPING WEAPON (USA) (A Gryder) steadied behind BURNT EMBER (USA) (P Dobbs) shortly after the start. Approaching the 1500m BO BID (USA) (R Mullen) had to be steadied when held tight by BURNT EMBER (USA) on its outside. EMERALD BEAUTY (ARG) (M Kinane) returned with a cut to its off hind. Passing the 900m FORTY HABLADOR (ARG) (G Hind) had to be steadied off the heels of KANDIDATE (GB) (K Manning) when that colt rolled inwards. Jockey R Moore (DOCTOR HILARY [GB]) was questioned regarding his riding of DOCTOR HILARY (GB) in the straight. He advised that after racing prominently the colt had tired as it was having its first start for a considerable period. He had ridden DOCTOR HILARY (GB) with the whip early in the straight however had only pushed it hands in heels over the final 400m. He was of the opinion that DOCTOR HILARY (GB) was better suited to sprint distances.

When questioned regarding the performance of CONROY (USA) jockey G Hind stated that he had been beaten for pace early in the race and when putting the gelding under pressure near the 600m had found little response. KEY OF DESTINY (SAF) (J Geroudis) jumped inwards at the start bumping TRADEMARK (SAF) (T Durcan). In the early stages LATINO MAGIC (IRE) (K Manning) and FANDANGO DANCER (GB) (R Mullen) raced fiercely. Approaching the 250m, LATINO MAGIC (IRE) when held up for a clear run was taken outwards causing TRADEMARK (SAF) to be steadied and shift outwards inconveniencing TASHKANDI (IRE) (L Dettori). FANDANGO DANCER (GB) which was following was also inconvenienced in this incident. On enquiry jockey K Manning (LATINO MAGIC [IRE]) was found guilty of careless riding under ERA 69 (i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for one day (March 18 at Jebel Ali) and fined AED 2500.
