Race 1. First Gulf Bank Gold Khanjar Condition Race. 1600m SALALAH GHANTOOT (AE) (G Hind) was slow to begin. On jumping JAP ANEEF (AE) (W O'Connor) veered inwards crowding NAHAB (AE) (S O'Gorman) which struck the hindquarters of MELLOW (AE) (P Smullen). In the early stages YALMAA (AE) (J Panas) raced erratically. Near the 850m MELLOW (AE) rolled out bumping heavily with TABAAH (AE) (D Bouland). JAP MUTHEER (AE) (R Moore) and WS ASEEL (AE) (W Supple) buffeted near the 300m. MARINETTE (AE) (T Durcan) raced erratically laying inwards on several occasions in the straight.

MUHTERIF (AE) (D Mernagh) was slow into stride. Approaching the 1200m AF QAWAQEB (AE) (M Hussey) veered outwards inconveniencing MAHDHA (AE) (H Ramlugaan). When racing greenly in the early stages RS JADDABA (AE) (D Hayse) shifted outwards causing ZAFARAAH GHANTOOT (AE) (T Durcan) to be steadied. Shortly after this ZAFARAAH GHANTOOT (AE) veered inwards quickly near the 1400m causing RAA KESAH (AE) (W Hollick) to strike that filly's heels and blunder. Passing the 1200m AF QAWAQEB (AE) shifted outwards quickly bumping heavily with MAHDHA (AE). Near the 500m the tiring RS JADDABA (AE) was tightened for room and lost ground when LAUOB (AE) (R Ffrench) rolled inwards.

The outside gate on SUMMONER (GB) (W O'Connor) was slow to open. SEIHALI (IRE) (T O'Shea) and THREE POINTS (GB) (M Fenton) bumped on several occasions shortly after the start. Approaching the 1200m SUMMONER (GB) carried SENHOR VENCEDOR (BRZ) (G Birrer) inwards which caused BIANCONI (SAF) (S O'Gorman) to be checked and buffet QIXL (NZ) (D Hayse). GLAD MASTER (GER) (S Chin) which was following was inconvenienced and shifted out with STATE SHINTO (USA) (T Durcan) checking, THREE POINTS (GB) and FESTIVE STYLE (SAF) (R Moore) having to be restrained and MUGHARREB (USA) (W Supple) being severely interfered with. On enquiry jockey W O'Connor was found guilty of careless riding under ERA 69 (i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 4 days (30 December, 1 January, 8 January at Nad Al Sheba and 7 January at Jebel Ali) and fined AED 4500. Near the 500m RED CRESCENT (SAF) dislodged apprentice M Hussey. THREE POINTS (GB) and STATE SHINTO (USA) which were following were severely inconvenienced. An enquiry into this incident was adjourned to a date to be fixed. On straightening SENHOR VENCEDOR (BRZ) rolled outwards carrying BIANCONI (SAF) out onto SEIHALI (IRE) which had to be steadied. Near the 275m SAPUCAI (ARG) (R Ffrench) rolled outwards causing SENHOR VENCEDOR (BRZ) to be steadied. Jockey R Ffrench was reprimanded for failing to straighten his mount when shifting ground. BIANCONI (SAF) shifted ground near the 200m crowding SAPUCAI (ARG), shortly after this BIANCONI (SAF) shifted out causing PAKHOES (IRE) (G Hind) to be checked. On enquiry jockey S O'Gorman was found guilty of careless riding under ERA 69 (i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for one day (Thursday 30 December at Nad Al Sheba). Apprentice M Hussey was examined by the Club's medical officer following this race and passed fit to ride his remaining engagement.
