After being loaded VAN NISTELROOY (US) (T Durcan) became fractious kicking out and breaking the rear gate and escaped. In the adjoining stall WAYNE ROONEY (US) (R Mullen) was kicked in this incident but after a veterinary inspection was passed fit to start. After being captured VAN NISTELROOY (US) was examined by the veterinarian and passed fit to start. This necessitated a significant delay. Approaching the 2000m VAN NISTELROOY (US) shifted outwards away from NICKEL AL MAURY (FR) (G Hind) and bumped with OCEANARA (GB) (J Panas), which then commenced to race keenly. Shortly after this VAN NISTELROOY (US) when held tight on its outside by OCEANARA (GB) rolled inwards causing MADJANI (FR) (R Hills) to bump with KAL BARQ (FR) (D Hayse) which in turn rolled inwards causing TIDJAM LOTOIS (FR) (S Chin) to be tightened for room and lose ground. Jockey John Carroll reported that WILL SHAM (SE) held its breath on several occasions during running. Trainer Ms J Wickham advised that she would now have WILL SHAM (SE) scoped.

Apprentice H Turner was fined AED 500 under ERA Ins 8 (ii) h for using her whip with her arm extended above shoulder height. General Prior to the running of the first race Stewards, with the executive of Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club and a contingent of jockeys, inspected the moveable rail. In considering that the moveable rail was erected from the 1200m mark only to a maximum of 9m it was deemed appropriate that all riders be instructed that in the back straight they traverse the course approximately 7m off the inside fence. To facilitate this 25m of railing were erected at the 1500m mark acting as a lead on to the centre of the back straight.
