CLODION (IRE) (D O'Donohoe) dwelt as the start was effected losing considerable ground. BAILADOR (IRE) (T Durcan) was slow into stride. ELSHADI (IRE) (G Hind) raced fiercely in the early stages and shifted out at the 1400m bumping SYDENHAM (USA) (S Chin) and then shifted in quickly buffeting with DUBAI WORLD (D Mernagh) at the 1300m. Jockey T Durcan reported that BAILADOR (IRE) was off the bridle from shortly after start and he was of the opinion that the colt did not relish racing on dirt.

QIXL (NZ) (G Hind) threw its head on jumping losing considerable ground. In the early stages QIXL (NZ) which was racing fiercely had to be retrained off the heels of SOUTHERN PARTNER (USA) (S De Sousa). At 1200m SOUTHERN PARTNER (USA) rolled out causing LE GOUTILLON (USA) (T Durcan) to steady outwards this inconvenienced JUMHOOR (IRE) (W Supple) which was laying inwards. Near the 800m SOUTHERN PARTNER (USA) struck the rail and shifted out quickly. This severely inconvenienced QIXL (NZ) and POTRO CELOSO (ARG) (M Hussey) which were following. Jockey R Moore reported that LANCEWOOD (USA) had resented the kickback in running. Following this race jockey P Dobbs became indisposed and was relived of his remaining engagement. He was advised that he would require a Medical Certificate before being able to race again.
