RUE MAZARINE (IRE) (J Panas) was slow to begin. At the 1000m RHYTHMICAL ROAD (USA) (T O'Shea) struck the running rail. MONJEZ (IRE) (S Chin) raced erratically in the straight and when struck with the whip on the right side veered in quickly bumping heavily with DESERT SANDS (AUS) (R Moore) 20m before the finish. When questioned regarding the performance of RUE MAZARINE (IRE) jockey J Panas stated that after beginning poorly he had ridden the gelding hard and had been getting no response. He advised that RUE MAZARINE (IRE) had given a huge blow at the 800m and had failed to respond to his riding in the straight. Trainer Mr R Simpson was of the opinion that RUE MAZARINE (IRE) was unsuited to racing in blinkers. A veterinary inspection revealed no abnormalities.
