Shortly after the start MAQADEER (IRE) (P Dillon) had to be steadied when crossed by PORTLAND COUP (AUS) (W Supple). At the 1050m PORTLAND COUP (AUS) then crowded SPARKFORD (USA) (R Mullen) which, when being steadied, tightened AL SAHIM AL ASWAD (USA) (S Golam). On enquiry Jockey W Supple was reprimanded for shifting ground when insufficiently clear of runners on his outside. Trainer Mr A Selvaratnam was fined AED 250 for failing to declare the shadow roll on LIONET (USA). Jockey T Naughton (DANEHILL DUBAI {IRE}) was warned with regards to using his whip with his arm extended above the shoulder.

Jockeys R Smith (BORREGO {IRE}) and S Heffernan (BETTER MIX {USA}) were warned with regards to using their whips with their arms extended above the shoulder. Passing the 250m HARRISON POINT (USA) rolled in slightly and brushed DESERT SANDS (AUS) (R Smith) which then came in contact with the tiring AMANDUS (USA) (P Dobbs), with that gelding striking the running rail, becoming unbalanced and having to be restrained. WAAJEB (USA) (R Ffrench) was unruly in the paddock dislodging Jockey R Ffrench. WAAJEB (USA) was again fractious at the start. Trainer Mr A Al Raihe was advised that WAAJEB (USA) must pass a paddock schooling test prior to being entered to race. NEVISIAN LAD (GB) (S Golam) was slow to begin. TRAPUNTO (CHI) (J Panas) veered inwards at the start bumping WAAJEB (USA). DOCTOR HILARY (GB) (R Moore) and JUANTORENA (GB) (T Durcan) buffeted for several strides near the 800m. When questioned regarding the performance of JUANTORENA (GB) Jockey T Durcan stated that after racing well in the early stages the colt had commenced to tire near the 400m and although he had continuing to ride hands in heels, JUANTORENA (GB) had compounded over the final stages.
