At the 1100m MLEEH (FR) (T O'Shea) steadied inwards and crowded NADIR DU BAC (FR) (C Arnold) which had to be restrained losing ground. On straightening MLEEH (FR) and MURHIB (GB) (T Durcan) bumped. MURHIB (GB) bore outwards over the final 250m finishing on the outside of the track. Trainer Mr D Watson was advised to take remedial action.

Approaching the 1300m MUWASSI (GB) (W Supple) was crowded for room and had to be steadied when RUMPOLD (GB) (A Ajtebi) on its inside shifted outwards slightly. Shortly after this SPARKFORD (USA) (R Mullen) which was racing keenly, had to be eased when crossed by SYLVANITE (USA) (D O'Donohoe) and shifted inwards causing JANADEL (IRE) (P Dobbs) to be steadied. Near the 1200m GRANATO (GER) (R Cleary) which was racing fiercely pulled onto the heels of horses in front. PFENNIG (GB) (J Panas) and SYLVANITE (USA) made contact on several occasions between the 1200m and 1000m. FOREST OF DREAMS (GB) (R Ffrench) bore out over the final 300m finishing on the outside fence. Trainer Mr A Al Raihe was advised to take remedial action.

Approaching the 1600m FUEGUINO (ARG) (C Arnold) overraced and got its head in the air. KALIBANOS (BRZ) (M Almeida) which was following was inconvenienced. Jockey T Durcan reported that MONASER (IRE) hung outwards from about the 800m and he had eased the colt down in the straight when it had made a respiratory noise. A subsequent veterinary inspection of MONASER (IRE) confirmed the colt to be making abnormal respiratory noises. Trainer Mr T Manuel reported that a subsequent endoscopic examination of MONASER (IRE) revealed no abnormalities. KALIBANOS (BRZ) returned with a cut to its off gaskin. MUSTANEER (USA) (W Supple) returned with a laceration to its off fore heel.

LANCEWOOD (USA) (R Smith) threw its head in the air shortly after jumping and lost ground. AMPELIO (IRE) (R Mullen) and RICH PICKINS (USA) (J Panas) made contact on several occasions passing the 1000m. RICH PICKINS (USA) retuned with a cut to its near hind heel. General Report Race 2. The ERA Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that he had taken possession of a canister which contained a substance intended to be administered orally to QIXL (NZ). Trainer Mr A Selvaratnam was questioned with regards to this and advised that it was a herbal product used as a prophylactic bleeder treatment. After determining that QIXL (NZ) had not been administered any of the substance, the Stewards allowed the horse to race. However they advised trainer Mr A Selvaratnam that they intended to inquire into this matter and that the substance would be submitted for analysis. A urine sample was taken from QIXL (NZ) post race.
