Shortly after straightening MAXI DE PIBOUL (FR) (T Durcan) shifted inwards making contact with AL NABA'A (AE) (T O'Shea), with that horse then shifting inwards and buffeting with MUTARASED II (GB) (W Supple) for a short distance. Near the 400m, the tiring RAYIK (GB) (D O'Donohoe) rolled inwards causing YOU SNOOZE ULOSE (US) (R Mullen) to be steadied. YOU SNOOZE ULOSE (US) was then held up for clear running until passing the 300m. When questioned regarding the performance of MAHBOOB NOOR (FR) Jockey R Ffrench stated that despite his urgings the colt had been outpaced in the early stages.

SEATTLE CLEAR (USA) (W Supple) proved difficult to load. Trainer A Manuel was advised that SEATTLE CLEAR (USA) would need to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to racing again. CONNOTATION (USA) (T Durcan) shifted outwards at the start making contact with TABREED (AUS) (P Dobbs), with that colt then shifting outwards bumping SEATTLE CLEAR (USA) (W Supple) onto the hind quarters of GUALLATIRI (GB) (L Bester). FOR ONCE (GB) (R Cleary) commenced awkwardly and shortly afterwards bumped QUIET ISLE (IRE) (T O'Shea). SEPT ETOILES (IRE) (X Ziami) was tightened for room on jumping and had to be eased. TABREED (AUS) raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Approaching the 1400m QUIET ISLE (IRE) shifted inwards tightening SHIHAB (IND) (D O'Donohoe), with that colt then shifting inwards causing CONNOTATION (USA) to be restrained. Jockey T O'Shea (QUIET ISLE [IRE]) was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift ground when insufficiently clear. Approaching the 300m SECOND NATURE (USA) (C Kerton) shifted outwards bumping SEPT ETOILES (IRE). When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SHIHAB (IND) Jockey D O'Donohoe stated that the colt had resented the kick back in running and then near the 400m he felt the colt lose its action and had subsequently elected to ease SHIHAB (IND) down. A post race veterinary examination of SHIHAB (IND) revealed no abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance of CONNOTATION (USA), Jockey T Durcan stated that shortly after the start he felt the filly was uncomfortable in her action and then approaching the 1000m he had elected to ease CONNOTATION (USA) down as he was of the opinion something may be amiss with the filly. A post race veterinary examination of CONNOTATION (USA) revealed no abnormalities.

FORTY HABLADOR (ARG) (T O'Shea) was crowded for room at the start. Approaching the 1600m FORTY HABLADOR (ARG) shifted inwards tightening NAADEY (GB) (R Cleary) onto TODMAN AVENUE (USA) (R Ffrench), with that gelding then bumping heavily with JACKSON (BRZ) (D Hayse). FORTY HABLADOR (ARG), NAADEY (GB), TODMAN AVENUE (USA) and JACKSON (BRZ) then continued to race tightly and buffet heavily with each other for some distance. On enquiry jockey T O'Shea was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) in that he allowed FORTY HABLADOR (ARG) to shift ground when insufficiently clear and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 2 days (10th and 14th of December). A post race veterinary examination of JACKSON (BRZ) (D Hayse) revealed the colt returned with a cut to the left fetlock.
