MASQUERADER (USA) (R Ffrench) pulled hard in the early stages. AMPELIO (IRE) (M Dwyer) shifted inwards at the 400m and made contact with GABANNA (USA) (W Supple), AMPELIO (IRE) then had a tendency to hang inwards for the remainder of the race resulting in jockey M Dwyer having to stop riding and straighten AMPELIO (IRE) on several occasion. Jockey M Dwyer (AMPELIO [IRE]) was warned in relation to using his whip with his arm extended above shoulder height. When questioned regarding the performance of CHANGE THE GRANGE (AUS), Jockey T Durcan could offer no excuses other than the gelding had felt flat in running. A post race veterinary examination of CHANGE THE GRANGE (AUS) revealed no abnormalities.

MILLBAG (IRE) (R Cleary) was slow into stride. FORTY HABLADOR (ARG) (P Bhosle) raced keenly in the early stages. COUNTRY RAMBLER (USA) (T O'Shea) had to be steadied when making the turn near the 1400m. POTRO TELL (ARG) (K Shea) lay inwards in the straight. Jockey K Shea (POTRO TELL [ARG]) was warned in relation to using his whip with his arm extended above shoulder height. ETMAAM (GB) (R Moore) was impeded for clear running in the straight on several occasions. A post race veterinary examination of STATE SHINTO (USA) (D Badel) and MILLBAG (IRE) (R Cleary) revealed no abnormalities.

IN THE FAN (USA) (D Badel) was withdrawn at 6:00pm by order of stewards when it was determined that the gelding was ineligible to run in this race. CONROY (USA) (W Supple) was unable to be loaded and was subsequently withdrawn at 9:07pm. Trainer Mr A Manuel was advised that CONROY (USA) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to be being entered to race again. CROONER (IRE) (T O'Shea) veered inwards on jumping and crowded SIR EDWIN LANDSEER (USA) (K Shea) with that gelding losing ground. MASTER ROBBIE (GB) (C Kerton) was slow to begin. GOLDEN ACER (IRE) (P Dobbs) veered outwards in the start and inconvenienced THAJJA (IRE) (R Hills). GOLDEN ACER (IRE) then raced keenly in the early stages. When struck with the whip near the 350m, CROONER (IRE) shifted outwards and the shortly afterwards shifted inwards. CROONER (IRE) then veered outwards passing the 200m and inconvenienced DOCTOR HILARY (GB) (T Durcan). CROONER (IRE) then veered back inwards over the concluding stages. Trainer Mr D Watson's representative advised that they would consider making alterations to the gear CROONER (IRE) wears, in an effort to improve the colt's racing manner. VARADOURO (BRZ) (R Cleary) returned with a cut to its mouth.

GREEN COAST (IRE) (M Dwyer) was slow into stride and then raced wide throughout. MACHYNLETH (GB) (W Supple) was tightened for room on jumping. Near the 500m, BENTLEY'S BALL (USA) (R Mullen) was impeded behind the tiring MACHYNLETH (GB) (W Supple). Passing the 400m, when held up for clear running, PROTECTOR (SAF) (K Shea) shifted inwards and bumped heavily with DAYBREAK DANCER (IRE) (P Dobbs), that gelding was then restrained, shifted inwards and inconvenienced MACHYNLETH (GB). Shortly after this PROTECTOR (SAF) was taken to the inside of KHABFAIR (GB) (T Durcan) and in doing so crowded MUTAMARRES (GB) (R Hills) which was restrained and shifted inwards causing BENTLEY'S BALL (USA) to be severely inconvenienced and lose ground. On inquiry, Jockey K Shea (PROTECTOR [SAF]) was found guilty to a charge of reckless riding under ERA 69(i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 7 days (Nad Al Sheba 25th January, 1st, 8th and 9th February, Jebel Ali 2nd February, Abu Dhabi 4th and 11th February) and fined AED 5000.
