Passing the 500m LAMEAA (FR) (W Smith) was held up behind ALDO DU CAYROU (FR) (X Ziani) and then near the 400m was taken to the inside to obtain clear running. When questioned regarding the improved performance of NOUR DE MONLAU (FR) Trainer Mr K Aga was of the opinion that the colt had appreciated the increased distance of today's race and the resultant slower early pace that was set.

IZDIHAM (IRE) (P Dobbs) raced keenly in the early stages. DEODATUS (USA) (R Cleary) lay inwards near the 1200m, brushed the running rail and lost ground. MORGHIM (IRE) (T O'Shea) when racing greenly veered outwards passing the 250m and near the 175m shifted inwards causing JAAFAL (USA) (R Ffrench) to be momentarily impeded. When questioned regarding the performance of ALMURAAD (IRE), Jockey W Supple stated that the horse had traveled well in running but when put under pressure to improve in the straight had failed to respond. When questioned, Trainer D Watson stated he was disappointed with the performance of ALMURAAD (IRE) but believed the extended break between races had contributed to the horse weakening over the final 400m. A post veterinary examination of ALMURAAD (IRE) revealed no abnormalities.
