Stewards' Reports for Al Maktoum Challenge R1
Prior to the commencement of this race meeting, the Dubai Racing Club elected to change all races scheduled on the turf track to the dirt track as the turf track had received a considerable amount of rain in the days leading up to the race meeting. As such, Races 2, 5 and 7 were conducted on the dirt track and the distance of Race 5 was changed from 1777m to 1800m to accommodate the starting point on the dirt track. Horses were also re-handicapped to carry a weight that reflected their individual dirt rating.

PURPLE EMPEROR (USA) (T Durcan) jumped awkwardly and was slow into stride. DUBAI HONOR (GB) (M Dwyer) jumped awkwardly and had to be steadied from the hind quarters of CONSULAR (GB) (T O'Shea). Jockey W Lordan (LIMEHOUSE [SAF]) was shown a film of this incident and advised that he must give runners to his inside more room in future. NAIPE MARCADO (URU) (W Supple) raced keenly in the early stages. Approaching the turn near the 1400m, JONQUIL (IRE) (D O'Donohoe) commenced to over race and lay outwards having to be steadied from the heels of PURPLE EMPEROR (USA). ACROBATIC (USA) made the turn near the 1400m awkwardly. Near the 1300m, IMPELLER (IRE) (J Egan) rolled outwards pushing FAMILIAR TERRITORY (GB) (L Dettori) wide which caused CONSULAR (GB) to be tightened and lose some ground. DUBAI HONOR (GB) which was following was inconvenienced in this incident. NAIPE MARCADO (URU) raced wide throughout and on straightening was carried wider by the tiring IMPETIOUS (GB) (B Doyle). Near the 250m JONQUIL (IRE) rolled inwards and momentarily impeded PURPLE EMPEROR (USA). Passing the 200m ELMUSTANSER (GB) (R Hills) shifted inwards and momentarily crowded MOSAIC (GB) (R Ffrench) which had to be steadied off the heels of JONQUIL (IRE) when that horse had rolled outwards. MAMBO KING (DEN) (R Mullen) raced wide throughout and made contact with NAIPE MARCADO (URU) on several occasions over the final 200m. A post race veterinary examination of IMPETIOUS (GB) revealed no abnormalities.
