GRAND VISTA (GB) (R Moore) was slow to jump and lost ground. Trainer Mr H Brown was advised that GRAND VISTA (GB) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. ANS BACH (GB) (W Buick) and DIANA’S CHOICE (SAF) (K Shea) bumped on jumping. DIANA’S CHOICE (SAF) then raced keenly in the early stages. Passing the 400m, when attempting a run, DOHASA (IRE) (J Murtagh) shifted inwards making contact with ANS BACH (GB) (W Buick). Shortly after this, the tiring REMARQUE (IRE) (G Marcelli) rolled inwards causing DOHASA (IRE) to be crowded onto ANS BACH (GB) which had to be steadied. Jockey G Marcelli then straightened REMARQUE (IRE) and then a short time later that colt again wandered inwards causing DOHASA (IRE) to be crowded once again and shift inwards making contact with BENLLECH (GB) (R Mullen) which was restrained. On enquiry, Jockey J Murtagh (DOHASA [IRE]) was warned for attempting a run which was not fully available. Jockey G Marcelli (REMARQUE [IRE]) was warned for failing to straighten his mount quicker when it was shifting ground. SO WILL I (GB) (R Hills) was held up for a clear run between the 400m and 200m. Near the 150m, ANS BACH (GB) had to be restrained off the heels of REMARQUE (IRE).

After being loaded into the gates, HAMMADI (IRE) became fractious and dislodged Jockey D O’Donohoe. When attempting to remount, the colt again became fractious and this time reared over in the gates and again dislodged Jockey D O’Donohoe. HAMMADI (IRE) was taken out from the starting gates and after being examined by the Club’s Veterinary Officer was deemed unfit to start. Subsequently, HAMMADI (IRE) was withdrawn at 7:52pm. Trainer Mr D Watson was advised that HAMMADI (IRE) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. VALERY BORZOV (IRE) (A Nicholls) which was in the gate adjacent to HAMMADI (IRE) was also examined by the Club’s Veterinary Officer and was passed fit to start. NOTA BENE (GB) (W Buick) was hard to load. Trainer Mr D Elsworth was advised that he must attempt to rectify the gelding’s starting gate manners prior to racing again. VALERY BORZOV (IRE) shifted outwards onto WARSAW (IRE) (J Murtagh) at the start. Approaching the 1000m, VALERY BORZOV (IRE) who was over-racing at the time, struggled to negotiate the bend. Jockey M Kinane reported that JUDD STREET (GB) had a tendency to lay outwards in the straight. Following the running of this race, Jockey D O’Donohoe was examined by the Club’s Medical Officer and was declared unfit to continue riding. Jockey D O’Donohoe was later transferred to Hospital for further examination.

On enquiry, Jockey K Shea (NAPLES [AUS]) stated that his mount had failed to negotiate the bend and as such shifted outwards having to be checked off the heels of TASTEYVILLE (USA). Passing the 200m, JACK JUNIOR (USA) was impeded for clear running. When questioned regarding the performance of PLAVIUS (USA), Jockey W Supple could offer no excuses for the run and stated that the colt never travelled well at any stage of the race.

Passing the 400m, YOUNG MICK (GB) (J Egan) shifted outwards and bumped FRISTON FOREST (IRE) (T Durcan). Approaching the 300m, BASALTICO (IRE) (K Latham) shifted outwards to obtain clear running and caused BOOK OF MUSIC (IRE) to be restrained. On enquiry, Jockey K Latham (BASALTICO [IRE]) was reprimanded for shifting ground when insufficiently clear. Passing the 300m, LION SANDS (GB) was taken outwards off the heels of FATHAYER (USA) (C Lemaire) and in doing so carried FAR FROM OLD (IRE) (F Jara) outwards. At the same time MOURILYAN (IRE) was taken to the inside of VERACITY (GB) (L Dettori) to obtain clear running, which in combination with the shift from LION SANDS (GB) caused FAR FROM OLD (IRE) to be crowded for room. Over the concluding stages, Jockey K Latham (BASALTICO [IRE]) dropped his left hand reign. Jockey J Egan reported that YOUNG MICK (GB) hung outwards throughout. Jockey C Lemaire (FATHAYER [USA]) was warned in relation to using his whip in a manner which did not allow his mount time to respond.

ESTRELA BOA (BRZ) (J Leme) was hard to load. Trainer Mr P Bary was advised that ESTRELA BOA (BRZ) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. FIRE SALE (ARG) (R Moore) commenced awkwardly. When questioned regarding the performance of DEVOTEE (USA), Jockey L Dettori could offer no excuses for the poor run. A post race veterinary examination of DEVOTEE (USA) revealed the filly to have suffered a cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer Mr S bin Suroor was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required and the filly would have to complete a satisfactory gallop in the presence of an ERA Veterinary Officer prior to being entered to race again. A post race veterinary examination of INDIA TIBERINA (CHI) (K Shea) revealed no abnormalities.
