UAE NON STOP (FR) (W Supple) was withdrawn on veterinary advice at 5:45pm after the horse was found to have colic. Trainer Mr M Ramadan was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to the horse being permitted to be entered to race again. AMOKING (US) (R Ffrench) jumped awkwardly. VUNDABA (US) (A Murgia) raced wide throughout. Near the 800m, Jockey D O’Donohoe’s (FRYVOLOUS [FR]) left leg made contact with a section of the running rail which had become detached at the joint in the rail. Following the running of this race jockey D O’Donohoe was examined by the on-course Doctor and declared unfit to continue riding.

STUBBS ART (IRE) (K Shea) had to be steadied off the heels of ECHOES ROCK (GER) (L Dettori) on jumping. AKUA’BA (IRE) (K Manning) and BOSTON LODGE (GB) (E Ahern) bumped on jumping. Approaching the crossing near the 1400m, ECHOES ROCK (GER) commenced to race keenly drifting outwards onto AKUA’BA (IRE) with that filly having to be steadied after she had commenced to over-race. At the same time POINTING NORTH (SAF) (R Mullen) and VALEDICTUM (AUS) (T Durcan) both commenced to race over-race and had to be steadied on several occasions. Near the 150m, STUBBS ART (IRE) was momentarily eased when VALEDICTUM (AUS) shifted outwards.

MONTE ALTO (IRE) (T O’Shea) was slow to begin and then raced wide throughout. Making the turn near the 650m, the tiring JAFFAL (USA) (R Ffrench) rolled outwards causing FLEURIE (GB) (B Doyle) to shift outwards bumping with HONOUR DEVIL (ARG) (J Murtagh). When questioned regarding the performance of HONOUR DEVIL (ARG), Jockey J Murtagh could offer no excuses and stated the horse had every chance. A post race veterinary examination of HONOUR DEVIL (ARG) revealed no abnormalities. A post race veterinary examination of WINGBEAT (USA) (F Jara) revealed the colt to have a slow recovery. Apprentice A Murgia was reprimanded for gesticulating prior to the finishing line.

CONTEST (IRE) (J Murtagh) and NIGHTS CROSS (IRE) (G Hind) both over-raced in the early stages. Approaching the 1000m, BUACHAILL DONA (IRE) (A Nicholls) commenced to over-race and had to be steadied from MISS GORICA (IRE) (T Durcan) on several occasions. CONTEST (IRE) (J Murtagh) which was following was inconvenienced at this stage. ASSET (IRE) (L Dettori) raced wide in the early and middle stages. Near the 800m, CONTEST (IRE) shifted outwards bumping NOTA BENE (GB) (R Hughes). MANDOBI (IRE) (W Buick) was unable to obtain a clear run in the straight. CONTEST (IRE) was held up for clear running in the straight and near the 200m was taken to the outside of ASSET (IRE) (L Dettori) to obtain a clear run. Shortly after this, CONTEST (IRE) steadied to the inside of NOTA BENE (GB) and shifted inwards causing ASSET (IRE) which was tiring, to be eased. BUACHAILL DONA (IRE) returned having bled from both nostrils. Trainer Mr D Nicholls was advised that BUACHAILL DONA (IRE) would not be permitted to start until it had passed a satisfactory gallop test in the presence of an ERA Veterinary Officer, to be conducted not before 21 days from the date of bleeding. Jockey G Hind (NIGHTS CROSS [IRE]) was reprimanded in relation to using his whip forward off the shoulder when held in the forehand position. Jockey W Smith was fined AED 3000 under ERA instruction 8(ii)(g) for using his whip on INSTANT RECALL (IRE) in a manner which did not allow it time to respond.

Trainer Mr L U Grajales was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to the horse being permitted to be entered to race again. ESCAPE ROUTE (USA) (R Mullen) was hard to load. Trainer Mr S Seemar was advised that ESCAPE ROUTE (USA) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. TEAM VICTORY (BRZ) (R Moore) was slow to begin. ARQAAM (GB) (R Hills) raced keenly in the early stages. CLASP (GB) (F Jara) returned with a cut to its right fore. It was reported to the Stewards that after TEAM VICTORY (BR) (R Moore) had run a post race endoscopic examination had revealed the presence of mucus, which in the opinion of the Trainer may have resulted in the poor performance of TEAM VICTORY (BRZ).

BLUE KSAR (FR) (T O’Shea) was hard to load. Trainer Mr E Charpy was advised that BLUE KSAR (FR) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. GOLD SOVEREIGN (IRE) (F Jara) raced keenly in the early stages. Jockey J Egan reported that TRAFFIC GUARD (USA) had a tendency to hang outwards in running.

LEANDROS (FR) (J Murtagh) was crowded for room on jumping. Approaching the crossing near the 1400m FURNACE (IRE) (A Murgia) shifted inwards and made contact with ROCKS OFF (ARG) (K Shea). FURNACE (IRE) then continued to crowd ROCKS OFF (ARG) for room which resulted in that colt having to be restrained near the 1200m. On enquiry Apprentice A Murgia was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69 (i) for allowing his mount to shift inwards when not clear of ROCKS OFF (ARG). Apprentice A Murgia was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 3 days (March 5, 2009 Nad Al Sheba 8, March 2009 Abu Dhabi and March 13, 2009 Jebel Ali). At the 1200m, PERFECT SEASON (SAF) (K Latham) which was laying in, held YAMAL (IRE) (L Dettori) tight on its inside. RAGHEED (USA) (R Hills) and SEIHALI (IRE) (W Buick) were impeded for clear running in the early part of the straight. Near the 200m FURNACE (IRE) shifted inwards and crowded SEIHALI (IRE) for room which caused that horse to make contact with RAGHEED (USA). On enquiry Apprentice A Murgia was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69 (i) for allowing his mount to shift inwards when not clear of SEIHALI (IRE). Apprentice A Murgia was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 2 days (Nad Al Sheba 5, 2009 and March 8, 2009 Abu Dhabi). Shortly after this LEANDROS (FR) lay inwards momentarily and made contact with FURNACE (IRE) which then bumped with SEIHALI (IRE). LEANDROS (FR) then became unbalanced and shifted inwards quickly bumping SEIHALI (IRE) causing that horse to bump heavily with the hind quarters of RAGHEED (USA). Near the 150m SWOP (IRE) (R Moore) was momentarily held up when PERFECT SEASON (SAF) on its outside lay inwards. FLYING BLUE (FR) (J Martinez) returned with a cut to its right hind leg.

MUNSEF (GB) (A Nicholls) was slow into stride. Shortly after the start BRUGES (IRE) (R Hills) was steadied off the heels of CAPTIN WEBB (GB) (T Durcan). GRAVITAS (GB) (W Supple) over-raced in the early and middle stages. DESERT LINKS (SAF) (K Latham) raced strongly in the early stages and making the turn out of the straight had to be steadied off the heels of SANBUCH (GB) (A Murgia) when that horse shifted inwards. WALDVOGEL (IRE) (J Murtagh) which was racing to the inside of DESERT LINKS (SAF) was inconvenienced in this incident. CLASSIC PUNCH (IRE) (R Moore) lay outwards in the straight.
