When running onto the course proper, near the 1800m, BOOK OF MUSIC (IRE) momentarily drifted inside the line off the running rail. At the same time, FEARED IN FLIGHT (IRE) (T Durcan) which had been racing keenly steadied inwards onto DOCOFTHEBAY (IRE), with that horse then bumping with BOOK OF MUSIC (IRE) which was trying to obtain racing room by shifting out off the rail. Approaching the turn at the 1000m, FIERY LAD (IRE) (J Murtagh) rolled inwards momentarily causing BIG ROBERT (GB), which had laid outwards slightly to be steadied and lose ground. DOCOFTHEBAY (IRE) had difficulty in obtaining clear running in the straight.

PEACE ROYALE (GER) (L Dettori) and MY CENTRAL (ITY) (J Murtagh) were slow to begin. PEACE ROYALE (GER) over-raced in the early stages. BLACK EMBLEM (JPN) (M Kinane) who was eased down in the straight returned having bled from both nostrils. Trainer Mr S Kojima was advised that as BLACK EMBLEM (JPN) had previously bled, the filly would not be permitted to start until it had passed a satisfactory gallop test in the presence of an ERA Veterinary Officer, to be conducted not before 60 days from the date of bleeding.
