In this incident, EURO GOLD (GB) (R Burke) and LEHEEB (FR) (T O’Shea) were momentarily inconvenienced. On enquiry, Jockey W Supple (QUANTUM DU CROATE [FR]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69 (i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 2 days (Nad Al Sheba 22 January & Abu Dhabi January 25, 2009). A post race veterinary examination of RICARDO (AE)(G Avranche) revealed no abnormalities.

JM BARRAK (AE) (R Mullen) was slow into strode. BASET (AE) (G Birrer) shifted inwards on jumping carrying SOROOH (AE) (D O’Donohoe) inwards which then bumped with AF ETHBAT (AE) (R Hills). This caused BARRAH (AE) (F Jara) to jump awkwardly and to be steadied and lose its position. Near the 1400m, JAP LAMSAH (AE) (W Supple) was momentarily eased when crossed by ZAD AL TAIF (AE) (S Al Taleei). Running to the 1200m, AYLAN (AE) (A Ajtebi) which had been racing greenly shifted inwards causing SOROOH (AE) to move away from that colt and in doing so crowded GRP DEIRA (AE) (R Ffrench) which had to be steadied and make contact to the hind quarters of AF ETHBAT (AE). On enquiry, Stewards were of the opinion that the racing manner of AYLAN (AE) and SOROOH (AE) had contributed to this incident and as such placed no blame on any one rider. ZAD AL TAIF (AE) raced wide throughout and carried BARRAH (AE) wide making the turn into the straight.

HAYAJAAN (GB) (W Supple) was hard to load. Trainer Ms G Duffield was advised that she must attempt to rectify the gelding’s starting gates manners prior to racing again. WAYNE ROONEY (FR) (F Jara) bounded on jumping losing a little ground. SAKRE D’OR (FR) (R Hills) shifted outwards on jumping, crowding AF IZDIHAR (GB) (T Durcan) for room onto the hind quarters of TIME OUT (FR) (S Doyle). In the early stages of the race, FIRSTWAN (FR) (R Ffrench) had a tendency to race keenly having to be steadied from the heels of SILVERRADO (US) (J Rosales). Making the turn out of the straight, VITE ROYALE (US) (W Smith) which had been racing keenly, shifted outwards quickly and made contact with AF IZDIHAR (GB) which in turn shifted outwards bumping ORDOKI (FR) (D Badel). Shortly after this, VITE ROYALE (US) which had continued to race keenly when being held tight for room was steadied on a number of occasions. As a result, SAKRE D’OR (FR) which was following had to be steadied outwards and in doing so tightened WAYNE ROONEY (FR) which then clipped the heels of ORDOKI (FR) and blundered. On enquiry, the Stewards were of the opinion that this interference was initiated by the sudden movement outwards of VITE ROYALE (US) at the point of the turn and as such could lay no blame on any one rider.

DAYAN (AE) (A Ajtebi) was a late scratching at 3pm after the horse had developed a fever. Trainer Mr M Al Jahouri was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to the horse being permitted to be entered to race again. CS PATRIARCH (GB) (C Taylor) jumped awkwardly and shifted inwards onto WAADI (GB) (W Supple). QUICKSILVER (GB) (R Mullen) jumped awkwardly. AHEL (FR) (R Ffrench) and WAADI (GB) (W Supple) both raced keenly in the early stages and brushed on several occasions when making the turn out of the straight when held tight by QUICKSILVER (GB) on its outside. WAADI (GB) then continued to race keenly through the middle stages of the race. Jockey A Nicholls reported that DORFOL DE BRUGERE (FR) hung inwards badly throughout making it difficult for him to ride the gelding out to the best of his ability. A post race veterinary examination of DORFOL DE BRUGERE (FR) revealed the gelding to be lame in the right hind. Trainer Mr A Manuel was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to the gelding being permitted to be entered to race again.
