KHATTAR AL NAIF (QA) (M Henry) and MALMOOS (GB) (R Hills) were slow into stride. MUZOON DE FAUST (FR) (R Mullen) veered inwards at the start, at the same time, JAP REHAANAH (AE) (W Rafiq) shifted outwards and this caused RS RAIS (AE) (A Nicholls) to be crowded for room and lose its position. KHATTAR AL NAIF (QA) raced greenly throughout. Near the 1000m, RS RAIS (AE) shifted outwards quickly and made contact with MALMOOS (GB) (R Hills). Making the turn near the 1000m, JAP REHAANAH (AE) shifted inwards causing RANEET (FR) (T O’Shea) to be crowded for room and be restrained. On enquiry, Jockey W Rafiq (JAP REHAANAH [AE]) was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69 (i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 2 days (Nad Al Sheba February 5 & 6, 2009). BARRAH (AE) (C Taylor) hung inwards badly in the straight. ELA’ASOOF (FR) (S Al Reffai) returned having bled from both nostrils. Trainer Mr S Hawaa was advised that ELA’ASOOF (FR) would not be permitted to start for 21 days and must complete a satisfactory gallop in the presence of an ERA Veterinary Officer prior to being entered to race again. A post race veterinary examination of poorly performed KHATTAR AL NAIF (QA) revealed no abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance of KHATTAR AL NAIF (QA), Jockey M Henry stated that the horse had never raced competitively in the race.

MUTANASEB (USA) was re-saddled whilst in the paddock after it was identified that the lead in Jockey F Jara‘s lead bag was not secured satisfactorily.
