AF DISAN (AE) (W Supple) made the turn near the 1000m awkwardly and then whilst racing ungenerously, shifted outwards bumping AL ANFA (AE).

MZYAN BIZAF (AE) (F Jara) was slow to jump and was then reluctant to race competitively in the early stages. JAP AL SAKAB (AE) (A Nicholls) jumped awkwardly and lost ground. MUTAWAHHIJ (AE) (D Smith) and KAHLAN SUDEIRAH (AE) (M Henry) were slow into stride. HIGH SUN (AE) (R Burke) was slow to begin and over-raced in the early stages with a tendency to hang inwards. KING (AE) (C Taylor) raced greenly in the early stages. KELMAT ALSER (AE) (R Mullen) hung outwards making the turn into the straight. Near the 250m, AL ANNAB W’RSAN (AE) (W Buick) which had been racing greenly had to be steadied off the heels of AL ASSAS DE CARRERE (AE) (W Smith). Stewards enquired into Jockey W Buick’s use of the whip on AL ANNAB W’RSAN (AE) at the turn into the straight and subsequently fined him AED 1000 under ERA Instruction 8 (ii) (g) for using his whip in a manner which did not allow time for his mount to respond. A post race veterinary examination of AFDAL THANI (AE) (A Ajtebi) revealed the colt to be lame in the left fore. Trainer Mr A Al Shamsi was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to the colt being permitted to be entered to race again.

Shortly after the start, QUAOLINA (FR) (R Hills) shifted inwards crowding BAHER (FR) (G Avranche), which made contact with the hind quarters of TIME OUT (FR). On enquiry, Stewards advised Jockey R Hills (QUAOLINA [FR]) that he is expected that runners on his inside are allowed sufficient room in future. Making the turn into the straight, TASHREEFAT (GB) (T Durcan) which had been hanging inwards, shifted inwards causing the tiring AL SOUROUR (FR) (W Smith) to be steadied.

KHALEEJI (AE) (W Smith) was a late scratching at 5:15pm after the horse was unable to be loaded onto the truck to be transported to the racecourse. MUHATTIM (AE) (A Nicholls) was a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 7:50pm after the colt was found to be lame in right hind. Trainer Mr B Al Ketbi was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to the colt being permitted to be entered to race again. GRP MUDHISH (AE) (T O’Shea) and RS FAWZI (AE) (D Smith) jumped awkwardly. Approaching the 2000m, EURO GOLD (GB) (W Buick) shifted inwards when insufficiently clear of RANEET (FR) (G Avranche), causing that colt to be restrained and lose ground. Jockey W Buick (EURO GOLD [GB]) was found guilty to a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 2 days (Jebel Ali 20th March, 2009 and Abu Dhabi, 22nd March 2009). Shortly after this, EURO GOLD (GB) continued to shift inwards with EKTIMAAL (FR) (W Supple) having to be eased away from that horse’s heels. ILLA ANA (AE) (D O’Donohoe) which was following was inconvenienced in this incident.
