BAHRA (FR) was a late withdrawal at 5.15pm on veterinary advice when it was confirmed with the Trainer Ms G Duffield that she did not intend to start the colt due to veterinary reasons. Trainer Ms G Duffield was fined the sum of AED 500 under Rule 60 (iii) for personally failing to formally notify the ERA Registry Office of her intention to scratch the colt from its engagement. DOUMBA DU CAYROU (FR) was a late withdrawal at 5.45pm on veterinary advice when it was established that the mare was suffering from a skin condition. Trainer Mr S Deeb was advised that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the mare being permitted to be entered to race again. KALIM LOTOIS (FR) (A Ajtebi) was slow into stride. MEN BU DHABI (FR) (D O’Donohoe) was fractious in the gates and jumped away awkwardly. DRAGAN DU PANJSHIR (FR) (A Murgia) jumped away awkwardly and then shifted outwards abruptly causing Apprentice A Murgia to lose his left iron. Apprentice A Murgia then rode that horse without his irons for the remainder of the event. Leaving the 300m, DJOUD’OR (FR) (M Henry) had to be restrained away from the heels of MYLLA DE CARRERE (FR) (J Rosales) when that mare shifted inwards to obtain a run to the inside of the heels of MEN BU DHABI (FR), which had shifted out slightly. On enquiry, J Rosales was reprimanded for shifting ground when not clear of his fellow riders.

MONTE ALTO (IRE) (R French) was slow into stride. Approaching the 300m, STEPPING UP (IRE) (G Avranche) had to be restrained and lost its racing position when tightened for room by NAIPE MARCADO (URU) (T Durcan) which shifted to the inside of the heels of MACHYNLETH (GB) (W Smith) to obtain clear running. On enquiry, T Durcan was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69 (i) for shifting ground on NAIPE MARCADO (URU) when not clear of STEPPING UP (IRE) causing that horse to be restrained by its rider G Avranche and lose its racing position. T Durcan was suspended from riding in races for a period of 1 day (March 28, 2009) and was fined the sum of AED 3000. As the suspension date given to Mr Durcan coincided with a Group race, the Stewards acting under the provisions of ERA Rule 99 (ii) allowed a request from Mr Durcan to defer the meeting on which his suspension is to be served until the first meeting of the 2009/10 season (the exact date to be confirmed when race dates for 2009/10 are released). Following the running of this race Apprentice A Ajtebi became indisposed and was relieved of his remaining riding engagement.
