OTAARED (GB) (W Buick) was fractious in the gates. Trainer Mr D Selvaratnam was advised that OTAARED (GB) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. ESCAPE ROUTE (USA) (R Mullen) was hard to load. Trainer Mr S Seemar was advised that ESCAPE ROUTE (USA) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. AAHAYKID (IRE) (J Crowley) and ARTIMINO (GB) (A Murgia) were slow into stride. Leaving the 150m, GREEN COAST (IRE) (T O’Shea) shifted inwards and made contact with the hind quarters of SWOP (IRE) (K Fallon). At the same time, SILVERSIDE (USA) (J Grosjean), which was racing to the outside of GREEN COAST (IRE), shifted inwards and as a result, GREEN COAST (IRE) and SWOP (IRE) raced in a restricted room for a short distance. On enquiry, it was established that whilst Jockey T O’Shea (GREEN COAST [IRE]) had shifted in, initially bumping with SWOP (IRE), SILVERSIDE (USA) had then shifted in also and consequently Jockey T O’Shea (GREEN COAST [IRE]) could not relieve the pressure to Jockey K Fallon (SWOP [IRE]). Accordingly, the Stewards were not satisfied that any one rider was fully culpable for the incident, however both riders were advised that they are expected to straighten their mounts sooner, when they shift ground. SWOP (IRE) returned with a cut to its left fore.

LIGNON’S HERO (BRZ) (W Blandi) raced wide in the middle stages. A post race veterinary examination of IMVULA (AUS) revealed the gelding to be lame in the left hind. Trainer Mr S bin Suroor was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to IMVULA (AUS) being permitted to be entered to race again. A post race veterinary examination of ZULU CHIEF (USA) revealed no abnormalities.

FROZEN FIRE (GER) (C Soumillion) was hard to load. Trainer Mr M de Kock was advised that FROZEN FIRE (GER) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. ILLUSTRIOUS BLUE (GB) (J Crowley) and MOURILYAN (IRE) (R Moore) were slow into stride. CLAREMONT (IRE) (A Ajtebi) jumped away awkwardly. Approaching the turn at the 2200m, HALICARNASSUS (IRE) (A Munro) shifted in slightly onto TOPCLAS (FR) (W Supple), initially crowding that horse in onto FROZEN FIRE (GER) (C Soumillon) and POMPEYANO (IRE) (R Mullen). In this incident, TOPCLAS (FR) ultimately clipped the heels of HALICARNASSUS (IRE) and blundered and POMPEYANO was restrained and lost its position. On enquiry, it was established that whilst HALICARNASSUS (IRE) had shifted in slightly, the lack of pace in the race had resulted in FROZEN FIRE (GER) pushing forward to take a run between POMPEYANO (IRE) and TOPCLAS (FR). The Stewards acknowledged that POMPEYANO (IRE) was over-racing prior to this incident and that HALICARNASSUS (IRE) was racing keenly due to the lack of pace. After taking into account all of the evidence, particularly the evidence of the riders involved, the Stewards were not satisfied that any one rider was fully culpable for the incident. Notwithstanding, the Stewards advised Jockey A Munro (HALICARNASSUS [RE]) that he must ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.

BON GRAIN (FR) (W Supple) was a late scratching at 10:48pm by order of the Stewards after the gelding, when proceeding to the start, had become excited and galloped a circuit of the track. PAN RIVER (TUR) (S Kaya) was hard to load. Trainer Mr A Kasar was advised that PAN RIVER (TUR) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. BEAUCHAMP XERXES (B) (P Hanagan) reared on jumping and lost ground. Approaching the 1600m, when SHAWEEL (GB) (L Dettori) shifted inwards, AL SHEMALI (GB) (R Ffrench) ran in away from SHAWEEL (GB) onto MCCARTNEY (GER) (R Mullen), causing that horse to be momentarily eased. Approaching the 1400m, AL SHEMALI (GB) was eased off of the heels of SHAWEEL (GB). Rounding the home bend, SHAWEEL (GB) raced tight to the inside of PAN RIVER (TUR) for a short distance.
