The start of this race was delayed by five minutes due to the late arrival of the ambulance at the starting gates. SAED (AE) (T O’Shea) was hard to load. Trainer Mr D Watson was advised that he must attempt to rectify the horse’s starting gate manners prior to racing again. CLEAR SIGN (AE) (R Mullen) was slow to jump and was crowded for room between BULBOL AL REEF (AE) (A Ajtebi), which was bumped inwards by AF THARB (AE) (D O’Donohoe), and JAP FATTAN (AE) (D Smith), which was bumped outwards by A’NNABAK W’RSAN (AE) (P Cosgrave). JAP RASHAD (AE) (C Taylor) raced greenly over the final 200m.

Passing the 300m, VITO CORLEONE (CHI) (A Ajtebi) shifted outwards causing COUNT PARIS (USA) to shift outwards, which obliged SHAMPAGNE (GB) to alter course around the heels of COUNT PARIS (USA). Jockey J Rosales (SHAMPAGNE [GB]) dropped his whip near the 250m. A post race veterinary examination of MCCARTNEY (GER) revealed no abnormalities.
