RAKAAN (IRE) (T Durcan) was crowded at the start between INDOMITO (GER) (W Smith), which ran outwards away from ATLANTIC SPORT (USA) (K Shea), and CLEARLY SILVER (SAF) (C Soumillon), which was crowded inwards by YIRGA (GB) (R Ffrench), when LIPOCCO (GB) (K Fallon) to its outside, jumped inwards. Leaving the 800m, ATLANTIC SPORT (USA) was eased off the heels of NOCTURNAL AFFAIR (SAF) (R Moore). Approaching the 100m, MONTMORENCY (IRE) (L Dettori) lay inwards slightly away from RAKAAN (IRE), which shifted inwards as it quickened to take the lead. This resulted in MONTMORENCY (IRE), CLEARLY SILVER (SAF) and AYUN TARA (FR) (G Benoist) racing tight to the inside of RAKAAN (IRE) momentarily. A short distance later, inside the final 50m, CLEARLY SILVER (SAF) and AYUN TARA (FR) bumped, with AYUN TARA (FR) becoming very unbalanced and CLEARLY SILVER (SAF) being eased at this time. On enquiry, it was established that RAKKAN (IRE) had shifted inwards momentarily, crowding MONTMORENCY (IRE) in onto CLEARLY SILVER (SAF) and AYUN TARA (FR). However, given that the shift inwards occurred quite quickly as RAKKAN (IRE) quickened away from the other runners, the tightening was momentary and Jockey L Dettori (MONTMORENCY [IRE]) was able to then relieve the pressure off the two runners to his inside. It was further established that the resultant interference to CLEARLY SILVER (SAF) and AYUN TARA (FR) had occurred after the pressure had been relieved. Whilst it was established and accepted that RAKKAN (IRE) had shifted inwards, the Stewards did not issue a charge of careless riding against Jockey T Durcan given the speed at which the incident occurred and that the tightening was momentary. Notwithstanding, Jockey T Durcan (RAKKAN [IRE]) was reprimanded and advised that he must make maximum effort to straighten his mounts when they shift ground in future. Jockey C Soumillon (CLEARLY SILVER [SAF]) was fined AED 250 under ERA Rule 64(iv) for failing to weigh in on the 6th placed runner.

IMBONGI (SAF) (K Shea) jumped awkwardly. COMRADESHIP (IRE) (R Burke) dwelt on jumping and lost ground. Leaving the 700m, DANDY BOY (ITY) (C O’Donoghue) shifted inwards away from ACCOUNTFORTHEGOLD (USA) (R Cleary), which drifted inwards as it was dropping back quickly, and in doing so caused BANKABLE (IRE) (R Moore) to be restrained. Leaving the 350m, DANDY BOY (ITY) was crowded to the inside of MUSIR (AUS) (C Soumillon), which lay inwards momentarily. Shortly after this, DANDY BOY (ITY), when endeavoring to shift outwards around the heels of the tiring IL GRANDE MAURIZIO (IRE) (R Ffrench), clipped the heels of that horse and blundered. GAYEGO (USA) (T Durcan) returned having bled from both nostrils. Trainer Mr S bin Suroor was advised that GAYEGO (USA) would not be permitted to start until it had passed a satisfactory gallop test in the presence of an ERA Veterinary Officer, to be conducted not before 21 days from the date of bleeding.

LE DRAKKAR (AUS) (C Lemaire) and FANUNALTER (GB) (R Moore) were slow to begin. ROYAL REVIVAL (GB) (T Durcan) jumped awkwardly. LE DRAKKAR (AUS) was held up for clear running until leaving the 200m. Leaving the 200m, FANUNALTER (GB) shifted to the inside of IGUAZU FALLS (USA) (X Ziani) and in doing so caused MAC LOVE (GB) (P Cosgrave) to be restrained. On enquiry, Jockey R Moore (FANUNALTER [GB]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 2 days (Abu Dhabi 19th February and Meydan 24th February, 2011). As FANUNALTER (GB) then quickened past IGUAZU FALLS (USA), the two horses bumped when IGUAZU FALLS (USA) drifted inwards away from SAHARA KINGDOM (IRE) (M Barzalona). Inside the final 100m, IGUAZU FALLS (USA) drifted inwards resulting in MAC LOVE (GB) having to be eased. Jockey X Ziani (IGUAZU FALLS [USA]) was reprimanded and advised that he must make a greater effort to maintain a straight course.
