After rounding the home bend, HUNTING TOWER (SAF) (C Soumillon) was disappointed for a run to the inside of the tiring WAR MONGER (USA) (R Hills), and approaching the 300m HUNTING TOWER (SAF) altered course around the heels of WAR MONGER (USA) to obtain clear running. When questioned regarding the performance of WAR MONGER (USA), Jockey R Hills advised that the horse had travelled well and he felt that he would finish off the race, however when placed under pressure the horse did not respond at all. A post-race veterinary examination of WAR MONGER (USA) revealed the horse to have a slow rate of recovery. When questioned regarding his ride on HUNTING TOWER (SAF), Jockey C Soumillon advised that it was his view that WAR MONGER (USA), being one of the favoured horses in the race, would be the horse to carry him into the race after straightening, however when WAR MONGER (USA) tired badly shortly after straightening, he was then disappointed for a run to its inside and ultimately had to wait to alter course to the outside of WAR MONGER (USA). This explanation was noted.

MONSIEUR JOE (IRE) (T Durcan) jumped awkwardly. RAIN DELAYED (IRE) (J Murtagh) jumped awkwardly and then raced keenly in the early stages. LIPOCCO (GB) (W Buick) was crowded at the start between SILAAH (GB) (A Nicholls) and STAR CROWNED (USA) (R Ffrench). Leaving the 1100m, STAR CROWNED (USA) was reluctant to hold its position when crowded to the inside of IVER BRIDGE LAD (GB) (M O’Connell), when that horse shifted inwards slightly. Leaving the 1000m, GLOBAL CITY (IRE) (L Dettori) eased outwards away from the heels of SILAAH (GB) and bumped with IVER BRIDGE LAD (GB). GLOBAL CITY (IRE) and IVER BRIDGE LAD (GB) then continued to bump for a short distance, with IVER BRIDGE LAD (GB) making contact with SIR GERRY (USA) (T O’Shea), which was racing to its outside. Leaving the 350m, IVER BRIDGE LAD (GB) ran inwards and momentarily crowded ATLANTIC SPORT (USA) (K Shea). SIR GERRY (USA) raced wide throughout. Jockey J Murtagh reported that RAIN DELAYED (IRE) hung outwards in the straight. SILAAH (GB) returned with a laceration to its right hind heel.

MANCHESTER (FR) (P Graberg) was slow to begin. AHLAAIN (USA) (W Buick) jumped awkwardly and lost ground. LORD OF THE STARS (USA) (T O’Shea) and ENERGIA COLONIAL (BRZ) (R Mullen) jumped awkwardly. Rounding the home bend, ENERGIA COLONIAL (BRZ) was eased when INTROVERT (IRE) (A Ajtebj) shifted outwards to improve. Jockey A Ajtebi (INTROVERT [IRE]) was advised that he must ensure he is clear when he shifts ground in future. Approaching the 300m, LORD OF THE STARS (USA) drifted inwards, at the same time as KRYPTON FACTOR (GB) (K Fallon) was endeavouring to improve to its inside. KRYPTON FACTOR (GB) was then disappointed for a run to the inside of LORD OF THE STARS (USA) until approaching the 100m, when he altered course to the outside of LORD OF THE STARS (USA). On enquiry, Jockey T O’Shea (LORD OF THE STARS [USA]) was reprimanded and advised that he must ensure that he straightens his mounts when they shift ground in future. Jockey T O’Shea reported that LORD OF THE STARS (USA) had a tendency to hang inwards in the straight. LORD OF THE STARS (USA) returned having lost its left fore shoe in running. Jockey M Barzalona (CRYING LIGHTENING [IRE]) was suspended from riding in races for 5 days (Meydan 5th March, Meydan 10th March, Jebel Ali 11th March, Abu Dhabi 13th March and Jebel Ali 18th March, 2011) for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(b) in that he used his whip in an improper manner with the intent of striking KRYPTON FACTOR (GB) as it passed by him leaving the 300m. Leaving the 300m, ROSINA GREY (GB) (H Bentley), was momentarily held up behind JANOOD (IRE) (L Dettori), and after easing outwards around the heels of JANOOD (IRE), ROSINA GREY (GB) then had a tendency to lay outwards.
