AL HAJIS (AE) then ran outwards abruptly, with NAIROOZ AL REEF (AE) (X Ziani) running outwards abruptly away from it. AL HAJIS (AE) was then unable to be controlled by its rider, racing very erratically, and at the 1300m, veered outwards abruptly and bumped heavily with WARDA AL REEF (AE) (A Nicholls). WAJFAH W’RSAN (AE) (R Mullen), which was following, was impeded as a consequence. Trainer Mr I Ellahi was advised that AL HAJIS (AE) would be required to complete a satisfactory gallop on race night in front of the Stewards prior to being entered to race again. QEMAH (US) (S Al Reffai) hung outwards badly throughout and ultimately finished the race on the outside running rail. Trainer Mr K Al Neyadi was advised that QEMAH (US) would be required to complete a satisfactory gallop on race night in front of the Stewards prior to being entered to race again.

QUITE A SHOW (US) (R Hills) was hard to load. Trainer Mr D Watson was advised that QUITE A SHOW (US) would be required to complete 2 satisfactory stalls tests prior to being entered to race again. MUDALLAL AL REEF (AE) (J Rosales), NAJEM AL KHALIJ (AE) (T Durcan) and VERSAC PY (FR) (T O’Shea) were slow to begin. Approaching the 1400m, BAHER (FR) (G Avranche) was crowded for room and eased between FORGEHILL CEZANNE (FR) (M Demuro), which was edging inwards, and DAS EL SAMER (AE) (R Mullen), which was taken outwards by QUITE A SHOW (US), which was edging outwards endeavoring to find better ground. Leaving the 700m, OMAYYADE THABET (FR) (C Sanchez) drifted outwards crowding GRP BAGHDAD (AE) (W Smith) out onto SARABELLA (FR) (C Sandoval). GRP BAGHDAD (AE) then raced tight between OMAYYADE THABET (FR) and SARABELLA (FR) for a short distance. Passing the 600m, GRP BAGHDAD (AE) and SARABELLA (FR) raced very tightly, with heavy contact between the two runners. Approaching the home bend near the 450m, GRP BAGHDAD (AE) was restrained and lost its position when racing between SARABELLA (FR) to its outside and OMAYYADE THABET (FR) to its inside. On enquiry, it was established that at this point of the race OMAYYADE THABET (FR) had drifted outwards as the field approached the home bend in a similar manner to other runners, and in doing so, carried GRP BAGHDAD (AE) outwards towards SARABELLA (FR), which caused GRP BAGHDAD (AE) to make some contact with the hindquarters of SARABELLA (FR), resulting in GRP BAGHDAD (AE) having to be restrained from its position. Notwithstanding that it appeared SARABELLA (FR) may have wanted to lay inwards onto GRP BAGHDAD (AE) after heading that horse, the Stewards deemed that the video showed evidence that Jockey C Sandoval (SARABELLA [FR]) was making reasonable endeavours to relieve the pressure to GRP BAGHDAD (AE), and therefore no action was taken against him.

MUSAALEM (USA) (R Hills) reared on jumping. CELTIC KING (GB) (W Smith) was slow to begin and was then crowded when OOR JOCK (IRE) (T Durcan) jumped outwards and PIRATE’S SONG (GB) (S Al Mazrooei) jumped inwards. SHMOOKH (USA) (J Rosales) jumped outwards and inconvenienced CINDERKAMP (GB) (P Dobbs). Passing the 300m, CINDERKAMP (GB) shifted to the inside of PIRATE’S SONG (GB), which was drifting inwards, and as a result, OOR JOCK (IRE) was eased. A post-race veterinary examination of SHMOOKH (USA) revealed no abnormalities. Meydan, 21 January 2012 – Race 3. Swaidan Trading Company – Peugeot 1900m (Adjourned Enquiry) Approaching the 300m, UPTOWN GUY (USA) shifted outwards crowding MASAALEK (GB) out onto SHEMOLI (GB) (W Buick), which was crowded out onto PROFONDO ROSSO (IRE) (J Spencer). In this incident, SHEMOLI (GB) was eased from its racing position. REHEARSAL DINNER (IRE) (T O’Shea), which was following SHEMOLI (GB), was also inconvenienced at this time. A short distance later, MASAALEK (GB) shifted inwards abruptly inconveniencing UPTOWN GUY (USA). After taking evidence from Jockey W Buick (SHEMOLI [GB]) following the running of the race, further evidence was taken today from Jockeys P Dobbs (UPTOWN GUY [USA]) and R Hills (MASAALEK [GB]). On enquiry, Jockey W Buick had stated that his horse was giving ground at this stage of the race, and he had elected to ease his mount at this time. After viewing the video footage available, Jockey P Dobbs conceded that has mount had shifted further than he had anticipated during the race. Jockey P Dobbs was reprimanded under ERA Rule 69(i) and advised that he must make greater endeavours to straighten his mounts when they shift ground in future. In relation to the latter shift inwards by MASAALEK (GB), the Stewards acknowledged that Jockey R Hills had reacted almost immediately to straighten his mount when it veered inwards, and accordingly no action was recorded against him.
