Shortly after the start, RAMI (FR) (A Ajtebi) drifted outwards away from VIZIR DES CEDRES (FR) (W Buick), which drifted outwards, and as a result SAHIB DU CLOS (FR) (R Ffrench) and KANDAR DU FALGAS (FR) (R Hills) were inconvenienced. At the winning post on the first occasion, SAHIB DU CLOS (FR) and MUSHARAB (FR) (J Rosales) raced tight and bumped to the inside of KANDAR DU FALGAS (FR), with SAHIB DU CLOS (FR) ultimately easing outwards across the heels of KANDAR DU FALGAS (FR). Passing the winning post on the first occasion, THEORETICALLY (US) (P Cosgrave) eased when JARNIN (FR) (C Sanchez) shifted inwards slightly. Making the turn out of the straight, NIESHAN (FR) (G Avranche) eased when racing between JARNIN (FR), which drifted inwards, and FRYNCHMAN (US), which rolled outwards. RAKED (FR) (O Peslier), which was following NIESHAN (FR), was also eased at this time, and MUSHARAB (FR), which was racing to the outside of RAKED (FR) and to the inside of THEORETICALLY (US), had to be eased as a consequence. Jockey G Avranche (NIESHAN [FR]) was fined AED 2000 for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(vii) for hitting his horse with the whip without giving it time to respond.

MAALI (IRE) (R Ffrench) was slow to begin. COMRADESHIP (IRE) (Y Bourgois) and COLONY (IRE) (M Demuro) bumped on jumping. MARCHING TIME (GB) (R Hills) jumped inwards at the start crowding EL WASMI (GB) (W Smith). MARCHING TIME (GB) then ran inwards crowding EL WASMI (GB), CARNABY STREET (IRE) (H Bentley), CARTEL (IRE) (P Cosgrave) and LAYALI AL ANDALUS (GB) (R Mullen). Leaving the 1500m, EL WASMI (GB) ran inwards away from MARCHING TIME (GB), crowding CARNABY STREET (IRE) inwards towards CARTEL (IRE), resulting in CARNABY STREET (IRE) having to be eased. Passing the 1400m, COMRADESHIP (IRE) shifted inwards causing PIRATE’S SONG (GB) (S Al Mazrooei) to be eased. COMRADESHIP (IRE) then continued to shift inwards carrying MARCHING TIME (GB) inwards, which carried EL WASMI (GB) inwards onto CARTEL (IRE), with these two horses bumping, and CARTEL (IRE) then shifting inwards away from EL WASMI (GB) onto LAYALI AL ANDALUS (GB), with CARTEL (IRE) and LAYALI AL ANDALUS (GB) both becoming very unbalanced and LAYALI AL ANDALUS (GB) making heavy contact with the running rail. On enquiry, Jockey Y Bourgois (COMRADESHIP [IRE]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 5 days (Meydan 16th, 17th and 23rd February, Sharjah 18th February and Jebel Ali 24th, 2012). Approaching the 1200m, PIRATE’S SONG (GB) drifted inwards away from KINGSHIP SPIRIT (IRE) (A Nicholls), and had to be restrained away from the heels of MARCHING TIME (GB). Approaching the 200m, KINGSHIP SPIRIT (IRE), which was commencing to weaken, was eased when EL WASMI (GB) drifted inwards away from PIRATE’S SONG (GB), which drifted inwards away from MARCHING TIME (GB), which drifted inwards slightly. CARTEL (IRE), which was racing to the inside of KINGSHIP SPIRIT (IRE) at this time, was crowded and eased also.
