KANDAR DU FALGAS (FR) (R Hills) jumped awkwardly. SAMIRA DE CARRERE (FR) (J Rosales) and OMAYYADE THABET (FR) (C Sanchez) bumped shortly after jumping, with SAMIRA DE CARRERE (FR) losing ground. Making the turn into the home straight, FRYVOLOUS (FR) (M Demuro) lay inwards on KANDAR DU FALGAS (FR), which crowded THEORETICALLY (US) (W Smith) onto the running rail, causing THEORETICALLY (US) to be eased. KANDAR DU FALGAS (FR) and FRYVOLOUS (FR) then raced tight and bumped for a short distance. Passing the 200m, AF ALGHABRA (AE) (R Mullen) was disappointed for a run between FRYVOLOUS (FR) and DARIYA (FR) (T Durcan), which drifted inwards. AF ALGHABRA (AE) was then impeded behind DARIYA (FR) and altered course to its outside passing the 100m.

SWOP (IRE) (K Fallon) and LOWTHER (GB) (A Nicholls) began awkwardly. TOOLAIN (IRE) (W Buick) was crowded and blundered shortly after jumping between ROYAL DESTINATION (IRE) (R Ffrench) and CAPTAIN RAMIUS (IRE) (J Spencer). BARBECUE EDDIE (USA) (R Hills) raced keenly in the early stages. Approaching the 1300m, ROYAL DESTINATION (IRE) raced tight to the inside of TERTIO BLOOM (SWE) (V De Azeredo). ROYAL DESTINATION (IRE) then raced keenly and approaching the1200m was eased between RED GULCH (GB) (L Dettori), which drifted outwards slightly, and REEM (AUS) (C Soumillon), which drifted inwards slightly. Approaching the 1000m, ARIETE ARROLLADOR (GB), when racing strongly, drifted outwards away from the heels of BARBECUE EDDIE (USA). Passing the 1000m, SWOP (IRE) was crowded for room between TOOLAIN (IRE) and NOVA STEP (GB) (O Peslier), which was racing keenly and drifted inwards slightly. WINKER WATSON (GB) (K Fallon) was late to post when part of its gear broke in the parade ring and then had to be replaced. WINKER WATSON (GB) was hard to load. Trainer Mr M Channon was advised that WINKER WATSON (GB) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. ROCK JOCK (IRE) (P Shanahan) stood flat footed as the gates opened and refused to race. Trainer Mr E Charpy was advised that ROCK JOCK (IRE) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test prior to being entered to race again. SIR REGINALD (GB) (P Hanagan) jumped inwards at the start, crowding WINKER WATSON (GB) in onto FORJATT (IRE) (J Doyle). BOHEMIAN MELODY (GB) (W Buick) and INTERNATIONALDEBUT (IRE) (F Tylicki) bumped on jumping and BOHEMIAN MELODY (GB) then commenced to race keenly and drifted outwards away from INTERNATIONALDEBUT (IRE), which had drifted outwards away from ADDICTIVE DREAM (IRE) (A Nicholls), which was shifting outwards. This movement crowded THE REAPER (IRE) (R Moore), which had to be eased. A short distance later, SIR REGINALD (GB) commenced to race very strongly and ran inwards abruptly crowding GREEN BERET (IRE) (R Ffrench) inwards onto BOHEMIAN MELODY (GB), which was restrained. Leaving the 450m, BOHEMIAN MELODY (GB) was disappointed for a run between GREEN BERET (IRE) and SIR REGINALD (GB) and passing the 400m was angled to the outside of GREEN BERET (IRE) to obtain clear running. Jockey W Buick was questioned regarding his ride on BOHEMIAN MELODY (GB), specifically his level of vigour over the concluding stages. In considering this matter, the Stewards accepted Jockey W Buick’s explanation that BOHEMIAN MELODY (GB) had peaked on his run a short distance from the line, and deemed that his failure to ride to the line had not cost the gelding 4th placing. Notwithstanding, Jockey W Buick was reprimanded under ERA Rule 69(iii) and reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out right to the finish line and not leave his level of vigour open to

PREPARED (GB) (A Ajtebi) was slow to begin. RASSAM (IRE) (L Dettori) jumped awkwardly. STRAIT OF ZANZIBAR (USA) (S Foley) and SURFER (USA) (R Mullen) bumped on jumping. BIBLE BLACK (IRE) (R Moore) raced very keenly in the early stages. FACTORY TIME (IRE) (R Ffrench) raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Leaving the 800m, FACTORY TIME (IRE) was momentarily restrained between THAT S PLENTY (IRE) (P Shanahan), which drifted outwards slightly, and SURFER (USA), which shifted inwards slightly. MABROOR (USA) (R Hills) was disappointed for a run in the early parts of the straight to the inside of and behind BIBLE BLACK (IRE), and approaching the 250m, MABROOR (USA) shifted outwards inconveniencing THAT S PLENTY (IRE). Approaching the 150m, PREPARED (GB) improved to the inside of MICKDAAM (IRE) (C Soumillon), which shifted ground inwards. PREPARED (GB) then continued to shift inwards carrying STRAIT OF ZANZIBAR (USA) inwards on to MABROOR (USA) in onto BIBLE BLACK (IRE). In this incident, MABROOR (USA) and BIBLE BLACK (IRE) were both restrained. On enquiry, Jockey A Ajtebi (PREPARED [GB]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 2 days (Meydan 21st and Abu Dhabi 22nd January, 2012).

SUMMIT SURGE (IRE) (K Fallon) jumped inwards crowding MIKHAIL GLINKA (IRE) (R Moore) in onto ST MORITZ (IRE) (A Nicholls) in onto HAPPY VALLEY (ARG) (K Shea) in onto NATIONALISM (GB) (A Ajtebi) and RASMY (GB) (R Hills), with both NATIONALISM (GB) and RASMY (GB) having to be restrained shortly after the start. BELGIAN BILL (GB) (T Durcan) drifted inwards shortly after the start, causing SONGCRAFT (IRE) (S De Sousa) to be eased. ALKIMOS (IRE) (L Dettori) was held up for clear running making the turn into the home straight. Jockey M Barzalona (ROSTRUM [FR]) was fined AED 1000 for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(vii) for hitting his horse with the whip without giving it time to respond.
