NUAGE AL MAURY (FR) (R Ffrench) jumped outwards at the start crowding FRYVOLOUS (FR) (M Demuro) out on to SAHIB DU CLOS (FR) (R Mullen). NUAGE AL MAURY (FR) was eased shortly after the start when NIRWAN (FR) (T O’Shea) drifted inwards. Approaching the 2100m, NIRWAN (FR) shifted inwards further crowding OMAYYADE THABET (FR) (C Sanchez) and ALBAR LOTOIS (FR) (W Smith) for a short distance. Passing the 1700m, NIRWAN (FR) shifted inwards slightly away from PARIS GAGNER (FR) (T Durcan), crowding ALBAR LOTOIS (FR) in onto PERIANDER (NL) (S De Sousa). In this incident, ALBAR LOTOIS (FR), which was reluctant to hold its position, was eased. NUAGE AL MAURY (FR) raced ungenerously throughout and Jockey R French advised that the horse had a tendency to hang outwards throughout. Jockey R Hills reported that TAKAAMUL (GB) hung outwards throughout. Jockey M Demuro (FRYVOLOUS [FR]) was fined AED 2000 for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(vii) for hitting his horse with the whip without giving it time to respond.

Jockey J Spencer (OTTOMAN EMPIRE [FR]) was reprimanded for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(viii) in that he used his whip with his whip arm extended above shoulder height. Jockey J Doyle (LYSSIO [GER]) was reprimanded for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(i) in that he used his whip in the forehand position forward of the saddle. Jockey K Fallon (FIERY LAD [IRE]) was reprimanded for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(i) in that he used his whip in the forehand position forward of the saddle. Jockey L Dettori (HOLBERG [UAE]) reported that something felt amiss with the horse’s action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of HOLBERG (UAE) revealed the horse to be lame behind. Trainer Mr S bin Suroor was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to the horse being permitted to be entered to race again.

KINGLET (USA) (M Barzalona) and BURANO (IRE) (R Hills) jumped awkwardly. Passing the 250m, MICKDAAM (IRE) (C Soumillon) raced tight between DARK MATTER (AUS) (T Durcan), which drifted outwards slightly, and NOOR ZABEEL (USA) (R Ffrench), which drifted inwards away from MEHDI (IRE) (K Fallon), which was commencing to shift inwards. Passing the 150m, MEHDI (IRE) shifted inwards causing NOOR ZABEEL (USA) to be restrained. On enquiry, Jockey K Fallon (MEHDI [IRE]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 2 days (Sharjah 18th and Meydan 23rd February, 2012). When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on RASSAM (IRE) in today’s event, Jockey L Dettori stated that whilst the colt had led at its most recent start, it was the intention of connections to ride the colt back with cover on that occasion. However, given how the colt had begun on that occasion, that plan did not eventuate. He further advised that given how the colt had been training at home subsequent to that start, it was hoped that he would be able to settle with cover, however, in his opinion, RASSAM (IRE) was a different horse on racenight on the racecourse.

MENDIP (USA) (K Fallon) and BIONDETTI (USA) (M Barzalona) bumped shortly after jumping. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, HAATHEQ (USA) (R Hills) shifted inwards slightly away from PISCO SOUR (USA) (W Buick) with FIREBET (IRE) (A Ajtebi) having to be eased. Passing the 200m, MENDIP (USA) ran inwards carrying HAATHEQ (USA) inwards and shortly thereafter, MASTER OF HOUNDS (USA) (C Soumillon) altered course to the outside of HAATHEQ (USA) and MENDIP (USA). SUBMARINER (USA) (C Sanchez) raced wide throughout. FIREBET (IRE) (A Ajtebi) returned having lost its right fore shoe. When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on HUNTING TOWER (SAF) in today’s event, Jockey K Shea stated that at the horse’s three previous starts this campaign, he had not begun very well and had met with some interference in the early stages of each race, and apart from the gelding’s first-up race where he had finished off satisfactorily, he had failed to finish off his next two races. He further added that the HUNTING TOWER (SAF) was now a 9yo and that they had been having some trouble finding the right approach to his racing pattern, and given that the gelding broke cleanly in today’s event, he had elected go forward and make the running in the hope that he would be able to get into a rhythm and finish his race off. Jockey K Shea’s explanation was noted.

SECRECY (GB) (L Dettori) was fractious in the gates and jumped awkwardly. WAR MONGER (USA) (R Hills) jumped awkwardly. ANAEROBIO (ARG) (P Cosgrave) jumped awkwardly and crowded STORM CHISPAZO (ARG) (H Bentley) in onto CLUB OCEANIC (GB) (S De Sousa) shortly after the start. SECRECY (GB) raced keenly in the early stages. Making the turn into the home straight, MUTAHADEE (IRE) (C Soumillon) shifted outwards crowding ROCHDALE (GB) (R Ffrench) out towards SECRECY (GB), causing ROCHDALE (GB) to be eased. MUTAHADEE (IRE) then shifted out further and bumped SECRECY (GB). Jockey C Soumillon (MUTAHADEE [IRE]) was warned under ERA Rule 69(i) and advised to ensure that he is clear of other runners when shifting ground. Approaching the 300m, DUBAWI STAR (GB) (J Doyle) ran outwards carrying MASTEROFTHEROLLS (IRE) (M Barzalona) wider on the track. WAR MONGER (USA) raced wide throughout.
