MAN OF ACTION (USA) (M Barzalona) was slow to begin. BANNA BOIRCHE (IRE) (C Hoban) began awkwardly. ENERGIA COLONIAL (BRZ) (M Demuro) jumped outwards at the start and crowded YAA WAYL (IRE) (T Durcan). Approaching the 1500m, BANNA BOIRCHE (IRE) was crowded and eased between RED GULCH (GB) (L Dettori), which drifted outwards slightly, and HE’SMINENOTYOURS (USA) (R Mullen), which raced tight to the inside of SCARF (AUS) (S De Sousa), which shifted inwards slightly. Making the bend at the 1300m, SCARF (AUS) was crowded and eased when THE RECTIFIER (USA) (M Fenton) drifted inwards. SCARF (AUS) then commenced to race keenly and BANNA BOIRCHE (IRE), which was following SCARF (AUS), drifted inwards crowding NAVAJO CHIEF (GB) (K Fallon), causing it to be eased. SCARF (AUS) then continued to race keenly and was eased approaching the 1100m as FINJAAN (GB) (R Hills) shifted inwards. Approaching the 800m, CANWINN (IRE) (W Buick) drifted outwards momentarily inconveniencing MAN OF ACTION (USA). Jockey R Mullen reported that in his opinion HE’MINENOTYOURS (USA) did not handle the all-weather surface. When questioned regarding the performance of RED GULCH (GB), Jockey L Dettori stated that the gelding raced flat and its overall performance was disappointing.

NATIONALISM (GB) (L Dettori) and ROYAL DESTINATION (IRE) (O Peslier) were slow to begin. ZAIN SHAMARDAL (IRE) (R Ffrench) jumped awkwardly. Passing the 1600m, ZAIN SHAMARDAL (IRE) was restrained when racing between START RIGHT (GB) (K Fallon) to its outside, SHARAAYEN (GB) (R Hills) to its inside and CRITICAL MOMENT (USA) (W Buick), which was in advance of ZAIN SHAMARDAL (IRE). On enquiry, Jockey R Ffrench stated that ZAIN SHAMARDAL (IRE) was racing keenly and that whilst he was racing in restricted room, it was his desire to ease back to take up a position closer to the rear. Whilst it was evident on the film that CRITICAL MOMENT (USA) had rolled out slightly in advance of ZAIN SHAMARDAL (IRE) and that START RIGHT (GB) was racing tight to its outside, the Stewards accepted the evidence of the riders, in particular the evidence of Jockey R Ffrench, and no action was taken against any rider. Jockey G Benoist (PRINCE D’ALIENOR [IRE]) was reprimanded for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(i) in that he used his whip in the forehand position forward of the saddle. A post-race veterinary examination of CANADIAN (IRE) (P Cosgrave) revealed no abnormalities.

REDEMPTOR (GB) (T Durcan) was slow to begin. SPECTACLE DU MARS (FR) (G Benoist) jumped awkwardly. COLONIAL (IRE) (M Barzalona) and DUX SCOLAR (GB) (R Moore) bumped on jumping. Passing the 1100m, KAVANGO (IRE) (P Cosgrave), which was racing keenly, was restrained between BARBECUE EDDIE (USA) (R Hills) and FIVE CENTS (GB) (R Ffrench), which was racing tight to its outside and shifted inwards slightly. Approaching the 300m, THE COMEDIAN (AUS) (V Duric) drifted outwards carrying REROUTED (USA) (C Soumillon) outwards, which crowded IBN BATTUTA (USA) (W Smith) out towards the heels of SPECTACLE DU MARS (FR), with IBN BATTUTA (USA) having to be eased. After being disappointed for a run behind REDEMPTOR (GB) in the early parts of the straight, passing the 200m, DUX SCHOLAR (GB) shifted outwards for a run between SILVER OCEAN (USA) (W Buick) and KAVANGO (IRE). At this time, KAVANGO (IRE) shifted inwards carrying DUX SCHOLAR (GB) in onto the tiring SILVER OCEAN (USA) (W Buick), causing SILVER OCEAN (USA) to be eased. Approaching the 100m, KAVANGO (IRE) angled inwards causing DUX SCHOLAR (GB) to be eased.

WARSAW (IRE) (K Shea) was slow to begin. GREEN BERET (IRE) (R Ffrench) was crowded at the start between INTERNATIONALDEBUT (IRE) (K Fallon) and SILAAH (GB) (A Nicholls), which jumped inwards. Approaching the 1000m, KANAF (IRE) (R Hills) raced in restricted room and was eased to the inside of ARIETE ARROLLADOR (GB) (I Mendizabal) when that horse drifted inwards. Near the 750m, ARIETE ARROLLADOR (GB) was restrained momentarily when racing to the inside of BAY KNIGHT (IRE) (P Cosgrave). KANAF (IRE), which was following had to be eased as a consequence. GREEN BERET (IRE) (R Ffrench), which was following KANAF (IRE), was also eased. On enquiry, whilst it was established that that BAY KNIGHT (IRE) had drifted inwards slightly, Jockey I Mendizabal stated that ARIETE ARROLLADOR (GB) had difficulty making the bend. As such, the Stewards noted the riders’ explanations and no action was taken against any rider. ARIETE ARROLLADOR (GB) was held up for clear running rounding the home bend. Leaving the 300m, JIMMY STYLES (GB) (R Moore) and VERDE-MAR (BRZ) (M Demuro) bumped. Leaving the 200m, CASUAL GLIMPSE (GB) (C Soumillon) was momentarily impeded behind GREEN BERET (IRE).

DANDY BOY (ITY) (T Durcan) was slow to begin. MARAHEB (GB) (R Ffrench) jumped awkwardly and then raced keenly in the early stages. TIME PRISONER (USA) (M Barzalona) and ALWAYS CERTAIN (AUS) (V Duric) bumped shortly after the start. On straightening, the tiring MARAHEB (GB) was eased when ALBAASIL (IRE) (R Hills) shifted outwards. After making the home bend, MASTER OF HOUNDS (USA) (C Soumillon) was disappointed for a run behind DO IT ALL (USA) (S De Sousa) and SNAAFY (USA) (W Smith). MASTER OF HOUNDS (USA) then angled outwards for a run between DERBAAS (USA) (T O’Shea) and ALBAASIL (IRE), and at this time ALBAASIL (IRE) drifted inwards. As a result, MASTER OF HOUNDS (USA) was eased momentarily and altered course to the outside of ALBAASIL (IRE). DANDY BOY (ITY) had difficulty in obtaining clear running in the early parts of the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of RIO DE LA PLATA (USA) (L Dettori) revealed the horse to be lame in front. Trainer Mr S bin Suroor was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to the horse being permitted to be entered to race again.

SUMMIT SURGE (IRE) was a late scratching at 7:37pm on veterinary advice after the gelding was found to be lame in the left hind. Trainer Mr L Cumani was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to the gelding being permitted to be entered to race again. SHIMRAAN (FR) (L Dettori), DANCE AND DANCE (IRE) (J Spencer), ROSTRUM (FR) (M Barzalona) and TROIS ROIS (FR) (H Bentley) were slow to begin. ZANZAMAR (SAF) (R Hills) jumped awkwardly and was crowded between BELGIAN BILL (GB) (T Durcan) and SWEET DUCKY (USA) (K Ulubaev). Shortly after straightening, ALRASM (IRE) (T O’Shea) angled inwards causing TREBLE JIG (USA) (W Smith) to be restrained. On enquiry, Jockey T O’Shea (ALRASM [IRE]) was reprimanded and advised that whilst he was having some difficulty with his mount hanging, and that TREBLE JIG (USA) was also tiring, he must ensure that he is fully clear of other runners when shifting ground. Leaving the 300m, BELGIAN BILL (GB) drifted inwards carrying QUICK WIT (GB) (S De Sousa) inwards on to the tiring ALRASM (IRE). Approaching the finishing line, FALLEN IDOL (GB) (W Buick) suffered an injury to its right fore leg and broke down. SHIMRAAN (FR), TROIS ROIS (FR) and QUICK WIT (GB), which were following, were restrained to avoid FALLEN IDOL (GB). A post-race veterinary examination of FALLEN IDOL (GB) revealed the horse to have fractured its right fore cannon bone. FALLEN IDOL (GB) was subsequently euthanized by the ERA Veterinary Officer. Jockey L Dettori reported that SHIMRAAN (FR) hung inwards badly throughout, which resulted in him being unable to ride the gelding in the normal manner.
