SAHIB DU CLOS (FR) (R Ffrench) was crowded at start between FRYNCHMAN (US) (J Doyle), which jumped inwards, and NIESHAN (FR) (G Avranche), which was taken outwards by DARIYA (FR) (A Atzeni), which jumped outwards. Approaching the 1700m, SERAPHIN DU PAON (FR) (O Peslier) was eased, got its head up, and over-raced for a short distance when OMAYYADE THABET (FR) (C Sanchez) drifted outwards. Near the 750m, DJANET MONLAU (FR) (W Smith) was restrained and lost its position when racing to the inside of DARIYA (FR). RAMI (FR) (J Rosales), which was following, was restrained to avoid the heels of DJANET MONLAU (FR) as a consequence. On enquiry, it was established that at this stage of the race, DARIYA (FR) had endeavored to improve to the inside of FRYNCHMAN (US), which was commencing to tire, and in doing so DARIYA (FR) had shifted inwards causing DJANET MONLAU (FR) to be restrained. Jockey A Atzeni (DARIYA [FR]) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under ERA Rule 69(i) and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 1 day (Jebel Ali 23rd March, 2012) and fined AED 2500. MANAN (US) (P Cosgrave) returned having lost its left fore plate in running.

AUGUST RUSH (SAF) (R Moore) stumbled on jumping. KANAF (IRE) (R Hills) was slow to begin. SEACHANTACH (USA) (R Mullen), HITCHENS (IRE) (S De Sousa) and ERGIYAS (USA) (K Ulubaev) all bumped on jumping. Shortly after the start, HITCHENS (IRE) and ERGIYAS (USA) raced tight between KRYPTON FACTOR (GB) (K Fallon) and SEACHANTACH (USA), with ERGIYAS (USA) having to be eased. Passing the 1000m, ERGIYAS (USA) ran inwards abruptly, causing KANAF (IRE) to be eased momentarily. On the bend near the 550m, HITCHENS (IRE), JASOOS (IRE) (J Doyle) and IVER BRIDGE LAD (GB) (M O’Connell) raced tight to the inside of SEACHANTACH (USA) for a short distance, when SEACHANTACH (USA) drifted inwards slightly. The tiring IVER BRIDGE LAD (GB) brushed the running rail and was eased at this time. Passing the 150m, AUGUST RUSH (SAF) altered course when KRYPTON FACTOR (GB) shifted inwards. AUGUST RUSH (SAF) returned having lost its right fore plate in running.

CITY STYLE (USA) (M Barzalona) stumbled on jumping. PRESVIS (GB) (R Moore) was slow to begin. FIRST CITY (GB) (R Ffrench) raced keenly in the early and middle stages. DUBAWI GOLD (GB) (R Hughes) got its head up and over-raced when being eased in the early stages. ALBAASIL (IRE) (R Hills) and FIRST CITY (GB) bumped making the home bend. Shortly after straightening, DUBAWI GOLD (GB) was disappointed for a run to the inside of MUTAHADEE (IRE) (C Soumillon) and was eased and altered course to the outside. Passing the 350m, CITY STYLE (USA) shifted outwards carrying DERBAAS (USA) wider on the track. MUTAHADEE (IRE) was impeded for clear running in the early parts of the straight, and leaving the 200m, shifted outwards crowding WIGMORE HALL (IRE) (J Spencer) outwards towards DERBAAS (USA) (T O’Shea), and then approaching the 100m, MUTAHADEE (IRE) shifted outwards carrying DERBAAS (USA) wider on the track, which momentarily impeded ALBAASIL (IRE). In this incident, DERBAAS (USA) was accidentally struck by the whip of Jockey C Soumillon (MUTAHADEE [IRE]). Jockey M Barzalona (CITY STYLE [USA]) was found guilty of breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(vii) for hitting his horse with the whip without giving it time to respond and was subsequently suspended from riding in races for 1 day (Jebel Ali 23rd March, 2012) and fined AED 2500. A post-race veterinary examination of IBN BATTUTA (USA) (W Smith) revealed the horse to be lame in the left fore. Trainer Mr M Al Muhairi was advised that a Veterinary Certificate would be required prior to the horse being permitted to be entered to race again.
