AKTAR LOTOIS (FR) (F Bertras) jumped very awkwardly. VERSAC PY (FR) (R Hills) was crowded shortly after jumping between KANDAR DU FALGAS (FR) (T O’Shea) and AL MUJAHAZ (QA) (D Williams), which ran outwards. AL MUJAHAZ (QA) and SERAPHIN DU PAON (FR) (O Peslier) both raced keenly in the early stages. Approaching the 1600m, AL MUJAHAZ (QA) raced tight for a short distance between VERSAC PY (FR) and NIESHAN (FR) (G Avranche). Jockey J Doyle (AF ALGHABRA [AE]) was reprimanded for breaching ERA Rule 64(iv) in that he failed to weigh in having been placed seventh.

SHAMALGAN (FR) (G Benoist) was slow to begin. Shortly after jumping, VISCOUNT NELSON (USA) (K Shea) and SNAAFY (USA) (W Smith) bumped. Passing the 1500m, DERBAAS (USA) (R Hills) was eased when RED JAZZ (USA) (M Hills) shifted inwards. FIRST CITY (GB) (R Ffrench) raced keenly in the early stages. Making the bend at the 1300m, RICHARD’S KID (USA) (R Mullen), after being tardy to begin and being urged to go forward, commenced to race strongly and then had to be restrained away from the heels of SHAMALGAN (FR). WESTERN ARISTOCRAT (USA) (R Moore) blundered badly passing the 800m and was eased out of the race. Jockey R Moore advised that the horse blundered badly twice and he felt that it had broken down. A post-race veterinary examination of WESTERN ARISTOCRAT (USA) revealed no abnormalities. When questioned regarding the performance of DO IT ALL (USA), Jockey S De Sousa stated that the horse stopped very quickly when placed under pressure before the home bend.

GRAND VENT (IRE) (M Barzalona) was slow to begin. ZANZAMAR (SAF) (R Hills) raced keenly in the early stages. Approaching the 2700m, FOX HUNT (IRE) (S De Sousa) brushed with MIKHAIL GLINKA (IRE) (G Schofield) and then shifted outwards away from MIKHAIL GLINKA (IRE) and faltered, breaking down. KASBAH BLISS (FR) (G Mosse), ZANZAMAR (SAF) and UNUSUAL SUSPECT (USA) (C Nakatani) were all impeded by the fallen horse. Given where this incident occurred in the home straight in close proximity to the inside rail, the Stewards ordered the outriders to alert the jockeys to retire their horses from the race near the 1400m. A post-race veterinary examination of FOX HUNT (IRE) revealed the gelding to have suffered fractures to its right fore cannon and left fore humorous. FOX HUNT (IRE) was subsequently euthanized by the ERA Veterinary Officer. After consulting with all connections and after all horses had passed an initial veterinary examination, the Dubai Racing Club and the ERA determined to re-run this race following Race 9 at 10:25pm. In the interval between the initial running of this race and the scheduled time for the re-run of this race, all horses were monitored to ensure that their recovery was sound, that there were no signs of heat-stress or any post exercise physiology problems following the initial running of this race. All horses underwent a further veterinary examination in the saddling enclosure prior to being saddled, which involved a trot-up examination, with all horses being deemed suitable to race. Given that Jockey G Mosse had commitments in Hong Kong the following day, and was booked on a flight, Jockey C Lemaire was substituted as the rider of KASBAH BLISS (FR) for the re-running of this race. GRAND VENT (IRE) (M Barzalona) was slow to begin. ZANZAMAR (SAF) (R Hills) raced keenly in the early stages. GRAND VENT (IRE) was retired from the race near the 1400m. BRONZE CANNON (USA) (K Ulubaev) faltered and broke down leaving the 1100m. UNUSUAL SUSPECT (USA) (C Nakatani), OPINION POLL (IRE) (L Dettori) and KASBAH BLISS (FR) (C Lemaire) were all impeded as a consequence. MAKANI BISTY (JPN) (F Komaki) commenced to give ground leaving the 800m. JOSHUA TREE (IRE) (J Murtagh) was held up for clear running rounding the home bend until leaving the 300m. Jockey R Hills advised that ZANZAMAR (SAF) had a tendency to lay inwards in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of BRONZE CANNON (USA) revealed the horse to have suffered a fracture to its right fore cannon. BRONZE CANNON (USA) was subsequently euthanized by the ERA Veterinary Officer. A post-race veterinary examination of GRAND VENT (IRE) revealed the colt to have sustained a fracture to its right hind cannon, and it was subsequently stabilized and transported to the Dubai Equine Hospital for further assessment. A post-race veterinary examination of MAKANI BISTY (JPN) revealed no abnormalities.

FALLS OF LORA (IRE) (M Barzalona) was fractious in the gates, reared prior to the gates opening and was then slow to begin. DADDY LONG LEGS (USA) (C O’Donoghue) and YANG TSE KIANG (FR) (T Jarnet) bumped on jumping. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, MARITIMER (CAN) (G Schofield) and BALADA SALE (ARG) (C Lemaire) raced tight and bumped, with BALADA SALE (ARG) then shifting outwards slightly, which forced RED DUKE (USA) (T Queally) outwards across the heels of WROTE (IRE) (R Moore), which shifted inwards slightly. GENTEN (USA) (C Williams), which was racing keenly behind BALADA SALE (ARG), was eased at this time. BALADA SALE (ARG) and RED DUKE (USA) then raced tight approaching the 1600m, with RED DUKE (USA) having to be eased. ENTIFAADHA (GB) (R Hills) raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned regarding the performance of HELMET (AUS), Jockey K McEvoy stated that after finding the lead, the colt did not settle as well as he would have liked, and he was very disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight.

After being loaded into the starting gates, DUBAWI GOLD (GB) (J Murtagh) kicked out and had both its hind legs caught and suspended in the back of the starting gates. After being removed from its starting gate, DUBAWI GOLD (GB) was examined by the ERA Veterinary Officer and was found to have sustained lacerations to both its hind legs. DUBAWI GOLD (GB) was subsequently a late withdrawal at 8:28pm. RAJSAMAN (FR) (R Ffrench) was slow to begin. PRESVIS (GB) (R Moore) dwelt on jumping and lost considerable ground. XTENSION (IRE) (J Lloyd) was crowded on jumping between CALIFORNIA MEMORY (USA) (M Chadwick) and MUTAHADEE (IRE) (C Soumillon), which jumped inwards. CALIFORNIA MEMORY (USA) was eased momentarily shortly after the start when DARK SHADOW (JPN) (Y Fukunaga) drifted outwards. Approaching the 1500m, AMBITIOUS DRAGON (NZ) (D Whyte) was racing keenly and was eased when MUSIR (AUS) (K Shea) shifted inwards. AMBITIOUS DRAGON (NZ) then continued to race keenly for a short distance. PRESVIS (GB) was impeded by the tiring AWAIT THE DAWN (USA) (J O’Brien) rounding the home bend. MENDIP (USA) (S De Sousa) was slow to begin. PLANTEUR (IRE) (R Moore) was crowded for room on jumping between ROYAL DELTA (USA) (J Lezcano) and SMART FALCON (JPN) (Y Take), with SMART FALCON (JPN) becoming unbalanced and stumbling in his incident. Shortly after this, SMART FALCON (JPN) was eased when SO YOU THINK (NZ) (J O’Brien) drifted outwards. Approaching the 1000m, when TRANSCEND (JPN) (S Fujita) drifted off the inside rail, SO YOU THINK (NZ) improved to its inside and the two horses raced tight for a short distance. ROYAL DELTA (USA) was impeded behind the tiring TRANSCEND (JPN) from the 500m to 400m, and then rounding the home bend, TRANSCEND (JPN) shifted outwards bumping ROYAL DELTA (USA), with ROYAL DELTA (USA) becoming unbalanced, shifting outwards and bumping MENDIP (USA). Jockey M Barzalona (MONTEROSSO [GB]) was fined AED 5000 for breaching ERA Rule 69(i) in that he rode in an improper manner, specifically for gesticulating well prior to the winning post. When questioned regarding the performance of TRANSCEND (JPN), Jockey S Fujita stated that the horse was unable to gain a comfortable lead and that this had contributed to the horse’s poor performance. He further added that the horse felt fine in its action after the race. A post-race veterinary examination of TRANSCEND (JPN) revealed no abnormalities.
