FESTIVAL CITY (GB) (T O’Shea) began awkwardly. TAFFE (GB) (D O’Neill) was slow to begin. Leaving the 500m, AL WASL (IRE) (C Sanchez) mis-strode and shifted outwards crowding MUSLEH (USA) (S Al Reffai) out onto GALACTOS (ARG) (S Al Mazrooei). Approaching the 300m, ROCKER (GB) (J Rosales) drifted inwards and bumped GALACTOS (ARG) in towards the heels of CAPTAIN RIO (USA) (R Mullen), placing GALACTOS (ARG) in an awkward position for a short distance. SPECIAL BOY (IRE) (H Bentley) was impeded for clear running behind and between FIRSTKNIGHT (GB) (P Dobbs) and MYOWNWAY (GB) (R Ffrench) from the 300m to the 100m. When questioned regarding the performance of SERHAAL (IRE), Jockey P Hanagan stated that the horse did not feel comfortable during the race. A post-race veterinary examination of SERHAAL (IRE) revealed no abnormalities. WADI WANDERER (IRE) (W Smith) returned with lacerations to its right hind.

STORM ULTRALIGHT (ARG) (M Monaghan) began awkwardly. DORMELLO (IRE) (K Fallon) was slow to begin. Passing the 1400m, STORM ULTRALIGHT (ARG), which had commenced awkwardly and then began to race keenly, attempted to improve to the inside of CAPITAL ATTRACTION (USA) (T O’Shea) where there was insufficient room, and had to be restrained. STORM ULTRALIGHT (ARG) then continued to race keenly and made the bend at the 1200m awkwardly. Apprentice M Monaghan (STORM ULTRALIGHT [ARG]) was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances in the future. Jockey P Hanagan (HAATHEQ [USA]) was reprimanded for breaching ERA Instruction 8(ii)(c)(vi) and (vii) in that he used his whip with excessive frequency and without giving his mount time to respond.

MAJOR VICTORY (SAF) was a late scratching at 10.55am after it was reported that the gelding was lame in the left fore. Trainer Mr S Seemar was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary certificate for MAJOR VICTORY (SAF) prior to it being permitted to be entered to race again. GO ON BE A TIGER (USA) was a late scratching at 11.05am after it was reported that the gelding had injured its left shoulder when being loaded onto the horse float to be transported to the track. Trainer Mr I Al Hadhrami was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary certificate for GO ON BE A TIGER (USA) prior to it being permitted to be entered to race again. UNKNOWN ZONE (IRE) (R Ffrench) was reluctant to proceed to the starting gates. UNKNOWN ZONE (IRE) was then fractious in the starting gates and spun around and became cast. UNKNOWN ZONE (IRE) was a late scratching at 4.27pm on veterinary advice. Trainer Mr A Al Raihe was advised that UNKNOWN ZONE (IRE) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test and that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the colt being permitted to be entered to race again. SOUL OF A NATION (USA) (JP van der Merwe) was fractious in the starting gates and became stuck under the front of its starting gate. SOUL OF A NATION (USA) was a late scratching at 4.27pm on veterinary advice. Trainer Mr R Boursely was advised that SOUL OF A NATION (USA) would be required to complete a satisfactory stalls test and that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to the colt being permitted to be entered to race again. MOMARIS (GB) (K Fallon), which was in the starting gate next to UNKNOWN ZONE (IRE), was removed from its starting gate, examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed fit to start. BROUGHTON’S DAY (GB) (S Al Mazrooei) was slow to begin. MASAALEK (GB) (O Ahmad) began awkwardly. Jockey W Smith (SUITED AND BOOTED [IRE]) was found guilty of a breach of ERA Instruction 8(ii)(a) in that he used his whip to excess, and he was suspended from riding in races for 2 days (Abu Dhabi on 3 February 2013 and Meydan on 7 February 2013) and fined AED2,000.

A post-race veterinary examination of LIGHTFOOT (GB) revealed the gelding to have sustained an injury to its right hind leg and it was subsequently euthanized by the ERA Veterinary Officer.
